SOVIET PARTY BOSS tCa»ti»ua< from sage Oka) . Germany. "<• w , ‘Diere had been reports that Khrushchev would offer a "peace treaty" to the East Zone, but there was nothing new in his speech to the Red-run parliament. His address was considered as big a flop as his visit has been thus far, with unenthusiastic East Germans dragooned into staged demonstrations in his honor. Grotewhol delivered a slashing attack on West German Chancellor Konrad Adenauer and his Western Allies while Khrushchev looked on with First Deputy Premier Antoitas Mikoyan. - - Grotewohl called for withdrawal of foreign troops from Western Germany and the removal of foreign bases as a prelude to German unification. And he attacked Western demands that German unity should be based on free, nationwide elections. “Step by step foreign troops should be removed from Germany,” Grotewohl said. "Germany does not need foreign troops oriforeign military bases. “Unity is not a matter for foreign powers to settle t ” Grotewohl called Adenauer “anti-German and anti-national” and said his policy was blocking the path to German unity. He accused him of “preparing for an atomic war on German soil" and said "the Bonn atomic policy is opposed to the vital interests of Germans."
