i _ ■ f LAWRENCE FUHRMAN CLAIMS BRIDE IN FORT WAYNE RITE Miss Virginia Marie Vulgamott, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. L. G. Vulgamott, 5217 Hoagland Ave., Fort Wayne, pledged nqptial vows with Lawrence Jerome Fuhrman, son of Mr. and Mrs. Lawrence Fuhrman of near Decatur, Saturday evening at the Grace Lutheran church, Fort Wayne. Officiating at the 6:30 o’clock rites, was the Rev. H. E. Holtmeyar. Pre-nuptial music was presented by Mrs. Wade Rath, vocalist, and E. W. Wendt, organist, before the bride appeared in a gown of white chiffon. Her bridal headdress was of white lace, and she carried an orchid surrounded with lily-of-the-valley atop a Bible. Miss' Valerie Cromie served as maid of honor in a dress of yellow chiffon, while Miss Jacqueline Fuhrman, sister of the bridegroom, Poe; and Miss Sharon Busick, Monroeville, the bridesmaids, appeared in gowns of green lace and net over taffeta. They carried bouquets of gladioli. Groomsman was Jerold Johnson, and ushers were Donald Hubbart and Richard Snyder. Following the ceremony, the bridal party deceived guests at Gerke’s hall. The Fuhrmans will make their . home near Decatur. SEVENTEEN OF VFW LADIES AUXILIARY CONVENE MONDAY Seventeen members of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Ladies auxiliary 6236 attended Monday night's business meeting at the VFW home. Draping of the charter and memorial services were held for past president Inez Weber. Mrs. Lottie Stevens won the door prize, and after the meeting, refreshments were served by the hostess, Mrs. Lillian Gray. Games were played during the social section of the meeting. Next hostess to the auxiliary will be Mrs. Verona Venis, at the upcoming August 19 meeting. DAV PLANS PARTY TONIGHT, SLATES SOCIAL ACTIVITY Final plans for the DAV party tonight at the Veterans’ hospital at Fort Wayne were mapped out, along with the coming year’s social activity, at a joint executive meeting of, the DAV and DAV Auxiliary at the DAV Tuesday evening. Twelve DAV officers completed arrangements for tonight’s party, at which Smokey Davidson and his Rhythm Four will provide entertainment, donating their music for the second time-entertainment the patients “really enjoy,” states Mrs. David Smith, hospital chairman for the auxiliary. The auxiliary will serve refreshments, and those working tonight will be the Mesdames Rufus Sommers, Herald Hitchcock, Catherine Stalter, Wilson Beltz, Clarence Morgan and Guy Allen and Mr. and Mrs. Al Croy and Mr. and Mrs. David I Smith. That day the DAV of the' state will arrange a program for the Marion patients, with gifts and entertainment. As many DAV and DAV auxiliary members who can come are needed to help with the patients. When there is a fifth Thursday in the month, that Thursday evening will be family night. Party nights will come each Saturday evening at the DAV. When the DAV meetings start after, summer vacation, in September, the second Thursday of the month will be set aside for business meetings, while the fourth Thursday sessions will be social meetings. - ,~ To raise the Pleasant Mills school band fund, and purchase suits for the majorettes, the school band is sponsoring the ice cream social to be held Saturday evening on the lawn of the Pleasant Mills school, beginning at 5:30. On the menu will be homemade ice cream, pie, cake, sloppy joes, coffee, and soft drinks. Six-Cent Increase Proposed At Geneva The town board of Geneva will consider a six-cent increase in tax rates August 26, raising the rate from 75 cents to 81 cents. The general tax will be raised from 68 cents to 75 cents, and the recreation fund rate will be lowered from seven cents to six cents, , for a total of 81 cents. Teen-Age Dance At Center Friday Night Teenagers of Decatur and area will get a chance to “dance all night,” or at least all evening without an interruption, Friday evening. Kenneth Watkins, manager of the Youth and Community center, announced today that three different bands have been engaged for Friday evening’s teen-age danc, to be staged at the center from 8:30 until 11:30 p.m. of bands will include a popular dance music band, a rock an’ roll combo, and a band specializing in Latin American rhythm. The music for this occasion has been provided by a grant from the recording industries, with the cooperation of local 607, of the American Federation of Musicians. Damage Is Caused By Runaway Horse Horse, Rig Cause Damage At Berne About $l5O damages resulted in Berne Wednesday from a runaway horse and rig belonging to Joseph E. Eicher, an Amish farmer residing near Berne, when the bocse ran into two parked caifr a street light, and a yard. Eichar reported that his wife had taken the rig to town, and had parked near a doctor’s office. Apparently the horse, which was almost blind, got loose and was frightened. It ran west on Maih street, ran into a car belonging to Esther Yoder, of route 1, Berne, causing about sl2 damage to the trunk and rear light of the car. It then veered across the street, and broke the headlight of a car belonging to Elmer K. Scare.
