Four adults and one baby died in the hospital during July. There were 65 babies born, 33 boys and 32 girls, .including one set of twin boys, born to Wilbert and Marcella Bleeke Kirschner July 16. >• Sentenced To Term 1•On Assault, Battery j _ Four Others Fined In Mayor's Court j Howard Wayne Martin, 27, of !- 927 North Tenth street, appeared . in mayor’s court this morning 1 and pleaded guilty to a charge of - assault and battery. Martin was arrested Friday evening, after his mother, Daisy Martin, signed a warrant for his arrest. He received a fine of SIOO and costs, and was sentenced to six months at the Indiana state farm. 1 He has been returned to the local ■ jail, to wait committment to the - penal institution. Also appearing in court today was Eriberto Serna. 26, of 946 North Twelfth street. Serna was arrested for disorderly conduct and public intoxication Saturday evening, after he and a compan- ; ion were seen fighting at Madison ; and ‘First streets. f Serna resisted arrest and had t<» be forced into the police xar, [ but later when arriving at ’the > ja*l, told the arresting officer he l would go When get- , ting from the car, he lurched forward and ran into the jail yard. The prisoner was tackled by the arresting officer, who committed the man to jail to await trial this morning. Mayor Cole fined Serna $lO and costs on the disorderly conduct charge and $1 and costs on the I public intoxication count. He was sentenced to six months at the Indiana state farm, all suspended but 10 days, which he will serve on weekends at the county jail. Others appearing in court were Chris Bohnke, 56, of route 5, who paid a fine of $1 and costs for hauling a trailer without plates; Eugene Schindler, 29, who paid a fine of $1 and costs, also, for driving without an operator’s license, and Adam Equia. also fined $1 and costs on a charge of reckless driving. Jefferson Board To Meet On August 27 Township Board In Special Session An emergency session of the Jefferson township trustee, H. D. Mosser, and his advisory board will consider "an extraordinary emergency” requiring SSOO for tiie repair of school buildings and grounds.
