MISS MATTHIAS "HONORED AT MISCELLANEOUS SHOWER Miss Marilyn Matthias was recently honored with a miscellaneous shower given by the Misses Janice Doctor and Marilyn Scaer, at the home of Mrs. Arthur Blakey. August 3 the honored guest will become the bride of Richard Scaer. Upon her arrival. Miss Matthias received a corsage of pink asters. The entertaining room was decorated with a miniature bridal party and flowers on the table. Games were played and prizes won by Mrs. Fred Wild and Mrs. Carl Thieme, who won the right to present these gifts to the bride-to-be. Lunch was served to thfe Mesdames Arthur Blakey, Otto Scaer, Clarence Matthias, Hugo Blakey, Arthur Doctor, James Doctor, Fred Wild, and Carl Thieme, and the Misses Janice Doctor, Marilyn Scher, and the honored guest. Those unable to attend but sending gifts were Mrs. Oakley Baxter and Miss Judy Baxter. SURPRISE PICNIC FOLLOWS EAGLES AUXILIARY MEETING ’ After the regular meeting Tuesday evening for the Eagles auxiliary, 12 members found out that the surprise party planned for them was a picriic at the home of Mrs. Dwight Whitacre. Regular business taken care of, the group motored to the Whitacre home. In the yard the picnickers had the traditional fare including weiners, potato chips, and pretzels. Mrs. Whitacre in hostess’ duties. Next meeting for the Eagles auxiliary will be a general Business meeting, slated for August 13. Because of vacation, there will be no officers meeting next Tuesday. „ MERRIER MONDAYS CLUB GATHERS FOR FAMILY PICNIC July meeting for the Merrier Moindays club was a family picnic, held recently at Foster Park in Fort Wayne. Mrs. Robert Mitchel presided, over the business meeting, and each member was reminded of her contributions to the 4-H club fair, July 30 and 31, and August 1. Final arrangements were made for the club’s trip to Pokagon state park, slated for August 6. Mrs. Charles Sheets and Mrs. Leo Sheets served as hostesses for the picnic, potluck dinner. At next month’s meeting hostesses will be Mrs. Harold Arnold and Mrs. Gene Hurst. Thursday afternoon at 1 o’clock, Mrs. Harold Minnich will be hostess to the Pleasant Grove WMA. At the Moose Home, the women of the Moose .will convene Thursday. Officers are to meet at 7:30. and the main meeting will be at 8 p.m. All chairmen are asked to be present. Next all-day meeting for the Union Chapel Ladies Aid is set for Thursday at the church. There will be a potluck dinner at noon, and sewing and quilting afterwards. All ladies of the church are invited to attend. Seimetz officiated at the 9 o’clock ceremony in St. Mary’s Catholic church. Parents of the newlyweds are Mrs. Martin Braun, 222 North Seventh street, and Mr. and Mrs. D. Burdette Custer, 358 Winchester street. Mrs. Custef is a graduate of Decatur Catholic high school, aria is employed in the offices of the Genera) Electric company. In the Parkview memorial hospital the eight-pound, nine-ounce son born to Mr. and Mrs. George Abels, of Fort Wayne, Sunday, is their third son, not their first, as previously stated. Given Recognition At Vets Hospital Mrs. Thomas Drew, the former Marilyn Jaberg, received special recognition along with other employes of the Veterans administration hospital in Fort Wayne, recently, at the annual incentive awards presentation program at the hospital. The daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Ed Jaberg, Mrs. Drew received a cash award for sustained and outstanding work as an employe of the hospital. She has served as a secretary in the personnel department there for the past two years. Also receiving the award for sustained and outstanding work was Mrs. Bertram Schmenk, of Fort Wayne. welfare office. Later in the awards presentations, Mrs. Drew was recognized for having submitted an idea-type suggestion to the Fort Wayne hospital. For this, too, she received a cash award. ■ » Pheasant And Quail Winners Announced Sheldon Dynes, of the Wabash Workers, won the first place ribbon in the ringneck pheasant division of the conservation projects, Jack Hurst, general chair* man, reported Tuesday afternoon. Other winners were second place, Thomas Ripley, Blue Creek Sodbusters; third, Glen Lehman, Wabash Workers; fourth, Calvin Morgan, Wabash Workers; and fifth. Claude Striker, Monroe Boosters' Joe Sicer, Purdife extension poultryman, judged the pheasant and quail. He was aided by Jack Hurst and Elmer Rich. There were 27 boys showing pheasants this* year. Dennis Schuller, of the Preble Greenleaf club, placed first in the quail division, and Delbert McCune, of the Hartford Hoosier Workers, placed second. Only five boys raised quail in the 4-H propect this year, because i last year the quail were not de- | liyered until after the fair.

County School Aid Share Is $231,437 Adams county will receive $231,437 from the office of the Indiana state auditor as its share of the record distribution of more than 48 million dollars in state school aid. The fund includes tuition support, equalization, transportation and teacher salaries. The distribu. tion is 7 million dollars highea than a year ago and 11 million higher than the semi-annual distribution last January. Amounts by counties include: Allen, $1,382,886; Blackford, $157,556; Huntington. $356,390; Jay, $308,101; Wells. $243,962. Recently Mr. and Mrs. Dale Sapp and children of Big Lake spent a week visiting Mr. and Mrs. Dale Beer and family and jJlr. and Mrs. Glen Beer, of Richburg, S. C. For the first time in five years, four Spiegel families were re-unit-ed Sunday at the Arnold Spiegel home at Clear Lake. Miss Marilyn Sue Peterson, six-year-old daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Wayne Peterson, 601 West Monroe street, has returned to her home trom the Lutheran hospital in Fort ifrayne, where she received treatment for a severely broken left elbow. She fell from her bicycle Monday. When Mr. and Mrs. Ernest Cumings, Des Moines, la., returned home after visiting with Mr. and Mrs. John Stucky, on route five. Miss Metta Stucky accompanied them. Mrs. Cumings, the former Betty Roebuck of Pleasant Mills is a sister of Mrs. Stuekv. Miss Stucky will stay in Des Moines until August 25.
