4*H Fob Notes By Dick Heller, Jr. The largest opening night crowd since the 4-H fair moved to its new grounds milled back and forth through the exhibits Tuesday night. The food tent report, cd that its gross receipts were more than $2,000, passing the $1,700 grossed the first night last year. O — Judy Bultemeier, 10-year-old daughter of Mr. and Mrs. .Clarence Bultemeier, suffered a deep cut on her left knee while inspecting the farm machinery Tuesday evening. The wound was treated at the Red Cross trailer, and Judy was then sent to a doctor. — O —— The rural youth tent reported hues of buyers for its popcorn, and soft drinks. Jerry Sprunger, Legora Markle, and Carl Bluhm headed the committee of workers which dispatched 14 cases of soft drinks in an hour. — O — A half-dozen children turned up lost during the evening, but they were claimed just as fast as they turned up. — O Floyd Rupert, and the Rev. and Mrs. Vernon Riley, janitors for the school, were complimented on the excellent order they have maintained in the school despite the huge crowds and many exhibits. —O — . A boat named ’‘Mike” entered in the handicraft show received a lot of attention. The entry was mode by Michael Leyse, of route 4, a member of the Washington Future farmers club. The judge was heard to say that the general plan was excellent, and a similar entry next year, finished up a little better, would make a good exhibit at the state fair. — O — The rural youth had a float, which took a lot of work, in the parade for the first time this year. It was not judged, but added to the beauty of the parade. - O — When a call went out Tuesday over the loud speaker system for Jackie Hurst, winner of the handicraft exhibit, one of those who showed up was Jack Hurst, district conservation officer. - O - The x-ray mobile unit, for detecting any chest trouble such as tuberculosis or spots on the lung, is located in the same spot as last year near the band stand. The free k-rays are sponsored by the public health department and the Adams county tuberculosis association, through the Christmas seal program. — O — The Red Cross trailer reports treating five blisters after the parade Tuesday night There were also four headaches, five cuts, one sprained wrist, and one sore throat treated the first day. - O - Sheriff Merle Affolder, chairman of the parade committee, and reputed to be an authority on catching skunks, estimated the crowd Tuesday night as between 3,500 and 4,000 persons. — O — Oue of the most common sights at the fair is the little toddlers seated on farm equipment in the outdoor exhibit space. Every boy tries every tractor before making bis ‘decision.” The sales personnel have to turn off the ignition before leaving the exhibits. — O — Roy Price says the 16 Jerseys entered this year are more than last year’s entries, and Peter B. Lehman reports 32 Guernseys, also better than last year’s show. A few less of some breeds were reported, but the Holstcins will
