Security Payments $63,023 In County j Total Figure Paid Monthly In 1956 More than 1.289 persons in Adams county were getting monthly social security payments totalling $62,023 per month at the end of 1956, , Christian H. W. Luecke. manager |of the Fort Wayne social security office, said today. I This means that $756,276 was paid for the year, all of which flowed ! back into the' economy of Adams I county, where these people live. The average monthly payment to ■ a retired worker in Adams county
at the end of 1956 was $57.61. Luecke pointed out that these increases result in part from the amendments which brought social security to farm self-employed, as well as many state and government workers and professional self-employed beginning with January. 1955. A breakdown of the monthly benefit payments for Adams eountyshows that 717 retired workers received $41,306 a month in 1956: 234 wives or husbands. $7,197; 107 widows or widowers, $4,985; 41 mothers with children. $1,999; 188 children, $7,434. In the Fort Wayne district area last vear, 13.026 retired workers received $806,372 a month: 3.786 wives or husbands. $126,727 ; 2,240 widows <>r widowers, $109,584 ; 573 mothers with children. $29,780 ; 2,813 children, $116,378: and 25 parents, $1,302. Geisel Is Appointed To Succeed Hindman Named Secretary Os Sport Coittmission INDIANAPOLIS (UP)—Former American League umpire Harry Geisel was darned by Governor Handley Tuesday as executive secretary of the Indiana State Athletic Commission. Handley told newsmen Geisel will replace Arch Hindman, Hagerstown, Who has been either commission chairman or secretary since) 1945 Handley praised Hindman, but said Geisel is a “good friend of mine” and wanted the job. which pays $375 a month. Hindman was named chairman in 1945 and secretary in April, 1954. On another subject, Handley said he would tolerate no “cliques” seeking to run the state police force. Newsmen asked him if he was ’►satisfied” with the force, in view of Supt. Harold Zeis' attempt to demote two officers to sergeant. “I am highly satisfied—and un- I derline highly — with Mr. Zeis," I Handley said. • There are not gping to be any cliques running the State Police.” he said. "The superintendent will run state police as long as I’m governor.” The State Police Board will hear the demotion cas> against Capt. Harry Sutherlin and Lt. Kermit Lewis July 29. The company officials conducted the group on a tour of the plant, and showed them various types of furniture for hospitals. Those making the tour included board president Cal E.
