They were summoned at 6:10 p.m., and returned to the fire house at 6:20, reporting no damage. Two Have Narrow Escape From Death Two Hartfqrd City young men experienced a near tragedy Friday evening, after they had set out on an expected quiet evening of fishing in the Wabash river, at • spot located two miles north and six miles west of Berne. Bill Adams, 23, accompanied by Bill Huston, had driven his car back to the fishing spot, and parked it next to the river. After setting out their lines, they started to gather some wood to start a fire, when one of the men noticed that the car was in flames. Adams.owner of the car, jumped into it, and attempted to drive it nearer the water to put out the flames. Burning gasoline was scattered over his body, and he leaped into the river to extinguish the flames. Huston, who was standing near, narrowly escaped serious injury when there was an explosion. ' The car* was termed a total loss, and authorities believed the fire started because of a leaky gas ' tank. Adams was treated at a , Bluffton hospital for third degree 1 and was later dismissed. Huston burns on his left arm and side, was not injured. If you nave something to sell oi rooms for rent, try a Democrat Want Ad, it brings results.
