Used Furniture Shop To Change Location The Decatur Used Furniture shop, owned by Jerry Rumple, will move from its present location on South Second street to the Spiegel building, one block south, in the near future. Rumple stated that he hoped to get moIW to the new building in August or September. He has operated from his present rented site for about 13 years, and before that was located across the street for two years. He recently bought the Spiegel building, where he plans to move. Perform Emergency Operation On Boy Heart Stopped On Operating Table CHICAGO (UP>—A young medical team performed an emergency .operation and restored life to a 17-year-old boy whose heart stopped on the operating table, officials at Chicago Wesley Hospital an/wunced. ; V Thomas Fowler, ’’physiologically dead" on April 18, was very’ much alive today. Hospital officials announced the successful heart massage operation Tuesday. They said Fowler was undergoing the second part of a two-stage operation to straighten curvature of his spine at the time His chest was still encased in a cast three-eights of an inch thick. A hole had been cut in the back of the cast and the operation was being conducted through this “window" when the anesthesiologist noted Fowler was breathing with difficulty. Surgery was halted immediately and the young group waited tensely for arrest of the heart beat, a thousands-to-one possibility. ; It happened. His heart stopped. He had no pulse. Immediately, he was turned over, his cast cut away with an electrical saw, an incision made in his chest, and his heart pumped by hand. An electric shock machine was used to correct the irregular beat of Fowler's heart. Normal heart action resumed 28 to 32 minutes later, but his was kept open about 45 minutes more in the event he |ufferA » relapse. New Retail Bakery To Open In Decatur retail bakery, to be known as Smith’s bakery, will open soon in the old location of Gerber’s Meat Market on South Second street, it was learned today. Byron Smith, who has 32 years experience as a baker, will operate the store with his wife and daughter. Smith, who was originally from Macy, has resided in Decatur since 1936. Work started on the new bakery, Decatur’s third, a week ago, and Smith hopes to be able to open early next week. His ovens were expected today. The front part of the building has been partitioned off, and new linoleum laid. Smith will specialize in pastries, and will feature a complete line of them. Everything sold at the store will be made in his bakery. He expects to feature hot, homemade unsliced bread by the loaf every noon. The fliers were the Thunderbirds, the crack Air Force foursome of stunters flying FIOO SaberjetsIn a more reflective mood, scouts jammed the highly educational exhibits erected and run by three government agencies: The Soil Conservation, Fish, and Wild Life Services, in cooperation with the conservation departments of Pennsylvania. New Jersey, and New York. There are three main exhibits showing how nature maintains a balance between soil, water, plants, fish, and animals—the major factors in natures equation. Os all displays, these are- the most overcrowded as boys line up for hundreds of yards waiting for admission to the half hour shows which run from sun up to sun dqwn, \ ; X' The exhibits are said to be the biggest single program in conservation education ever undertaken by the federal government. One exhibit using fans and watering cans shows how wind and rain erodes away natures most valuable asset —soil. Another demonstrates what makes waters hospitable to fish. Youth Kills Baby Sister And Mother Hard-Drinking Boy Shows No Remorse VIRGINIA, Minn. (UP)-A harddrinking boy showed no remorse today in the wake of a shooting binge that left his mother and baby sister dead, and his father and another sister wounded. William Louis Niemi Jr., 18, was charged Tuesday with two first degree murder counts and was held for the grand jury. The boy, known as “Billy,” had served time in a correctional institution and was known to be a heavy drinker, Detective Earl Lindeman said. I, Lindeman said Billy confessed to drinking 8 to 10 cans of beer stolen from a warehouse and pondering suicide late Monday. "I figured I was no good,” he said. Billy feared his parents would have him returned to correctional school because of his drinking, Lindeman said- The youth planned to rob his father’s car at gunpoint and kill himself by crashing it into a viaduct, the boy tdld Lindeman. The boy’s parents returned home and snapped off his blaring record player. Billy took the pistol he had been toying with, shot his mother two times, grazed his father with a bullet, and fired at his sister, Marilyn, 15, inflicting a powder burn. ->■ . Hearing his 3-year-old sister, Mary, crying upstairs, Billy ran to her crib, pistol-whipped her with his empty gun, then loaded and fired a 20-gauge shotgun into- the crib, the boy told Lindenfan.
