OFFICE FRIENDS HONOR JULY 27 BRIDE-ELECT Miss Wanda Bailey and Miss Honora Braun, both July 27 brideselect, were honored at a shower and supper given by the General Electric,office girls Thursday evening at the Fairway restaurant. Miss Bailey will recite vows with Charles Boyd July 27, and Miss Braun will wed Anthony Custer that day. When they arrived, the honored guests received corsages of pink carnations and white fugii mums. The centerpiece on the table was a large heart-shaped arch with silver and white wedding bells. Other decorations included white tapers and a bridal doll, with white umbrella nut cups topped with silver bells. After the traditional shower games were played, the honored guests were presented tlieir gifts from the group, Miss Bailey, crystal, Miss Braun, a sunburst clock. Present'to honor the brides-to-be were Mary Miller, Judy McKean, Mary Heimann, Mary Maloney, Genevie August, Marcella Thieme. Phyllis Zimmerman. TWENTY-EIGHT AT YEARLY EVERREADY CLASS PICNIC Thursday evening the Everready Sunday school class of the First Methodist church gathered at the home of Mrs. Gail Baughman for their annual picnic supper, Invocation was given by Mrs. Dovie Bedwell, president Os the class, and “David’s Song of Praise" was the devotional topic Mrs. Jesse Niblick chose for the evening. Miss Thelma Walters, local delegate to the camp at Lake Webster, reported on her trip. MARY AND MARTHA CIRCLES PICNIC AT HANNA-NUTTMAN Afternoon circles of Martha and Mary of the First Presbyterian church met at Hanna-Nuttman park for their summer picnic Thursday noon, with a good-timers program in the afternoon. After the picnic luncheon, Mrs. E. E. Rydell, president, conducted a brief business meeting. Mrs. Lois Black and Miss Frances Dugan planned the entertainment for the afternoon—a mock talent and song contest, conducted by Mrs. Lowell Harper. Prizes were presented to the “winners” in the various divisions of stunts. Monday the Decatur Welcome Wagon club will meet with Mrs. M. C. Sieling. 768 Parkview Drive, * 8 p.m. At the C. L. of C. hall. Tuesday evening at 6:30 o’clock, the Catholic Ladies of Columbia will hold a potluck supper. Rolls and meat will be provided. Decatur Home Demonstration club will meet Wednesday evening at 6 o’clock, at the Hanna-Nuttma’i park shelter house. Each member is to bring a white elephant for bingo and also one covered dish. Meat and coffee will be provided by the hostess. ' Carol Kaehr Is Hurt In Tractor Mishap Miss Carol Kaehr, 18, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Ezra Kaehr of Decatur route 4, and salutatorian of this year’s Adams Central graduating cla§s, was severely cut in a tractor mishap Wednesday. Miss Kaehr was hooking a rototiller to a tractor while her brother, Richard, 19, was operating the tractor. He was going to depress the brake and hit the power takeoff instead. The tiller moved back and knives went up and cut her right leg severely. She underwent surgery at the Bluffton Clinic hospital Wednesday and her condition is reported good. 154 New Cases Os Polio In Nation Total To Date Is Below 1956 Figure WASHINGTON (IB - A total of 154 new cases of polio occurred last week r the Public Health Service reported today. This compared with 273 new cases for the same week last year. The service said the number of polio cases this year now totals 1,557 compared with 2,927 for the same period in 1956 .The number of cases since the polio season began April 1 was 1,030, compared with 1,860 for the same period last season. The service also reported that through June 19, 42 persons were reported to havp contracted polio after having three shots of Salk vaccine. An estimated 20,200,000 persons have received the three shots. Os the 42 victims, two died. Paralysis was milder among persons with one or more vaccinations than those unprotected by the vaccine, the service said. Attend Funeral Os Robert T. Morris >' Mrs. John F. Schurger and daughters Mary Ann and Mrs. Ireneaeus F. Gase, were in Midland, Mich., Thursday, where they attended funeral' services for Robert T. Morris, son of Mrs. Leota (Schurger) Morris. Morris, who was employed by the legal division of the Douglas Aircraft Corporation of Los Angeles, met death early this week when his car plunged over a cliff, on Malibu Canyon road and dropped 400 feet. Returns From 4-H Conservation Camp Wilford Morrison, son of Mr. and | Mrs. Charles Morrison of R. 3, De- ■ catur, will return this afternoon | from the state 4-H conservation i camp at Indiana Dunes state park near Chesterton in Porter county. Wilford is a member of the St. Mary's Sodbusters 4-H club and has been enrolled in the conservation projects. ‘ | Activities at. the camp included studying entomology, forestry, soils and wildlife. FUNDS TO HELP FURNISH the Inside of the nearly completed Girl Scout cabin in Hanna-Nuttman park are still needed, and this problem will be discussed at the meeting of the Girl Scout council Thursday night. The dedication program will also be discussed. All the Girl Scout troops in the city gave two-thirds of their earnings from selling Girl Scout cookies for two years to help build the handsome brickette building.
