LAWN PARTY MARKS TERRI JO BORNE’S BIRTHDAY Monday afternoon. Miss Terri Jo Borne, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Roger Borne, celebrated her third birthday at a lawn party at her parents* home. Refreshments on a circus theme, including a clown birthday cake, were served to fourteen guests. Gay decorations chimed in with lee cream circus wagons and a merry-go-round cake, to carry out the theme. • Guests were Mrs. Russell Stanley, Joyce and Anna Marie; Mrs. Gene Thatcher, Thane, and Scott; Mrs. Sam Yost. Pattiann and Karla Jo; Mrs. Robert August and Jimmy: Mrs. Byford Smith and Jeff, and Greg Borne. Unable to attend were Mrs. Roger Gentis, Nancy and Steve and Mrs. Richard Gerig, Susan and Julie. MRS. JAMES TO REPRESENT LOCAL CLUB AT CONVENTION Last meeting for the Emblem club until September was held recently at the Elks home, with a potluck supper and a business session during which Mrs. Harry James was selected to attend the national Emblem club convention. September 21 through the 26th will be the time of the national meeting of Emblem clubs, to be at Swantscott, Mass. Twenty-two members and friends shared in the potluck supper, with Mrs. James, Mrs. Helen Howell, Mrs. Ray Heller, and Mrs. Dale Death the committee for the evening. —* At the end of the evening, the group was dismissed until September, when they will resume their meetings, to be the second Thursday of each month in the new year. HOME DEMONSTRATION CLUBS HOLD PICNIC One hundred and twenty-five women from 20 of the 22 Home Demonstration clubs in Adams county were represented a.t the annual picnic Monday evening at Lehman park in Berne. In addition to the picnic, each woman
prepared her own steak and potato on a grill. The salad, dessert, drink and rolls were prepared by the M. W. F. and Swiss Village hbme demonstration clubs at Berne. Leo Seltenright, county agricultural agent; Wayne Rothgeb, farm director of radio and television station WKJG in Fort VVayne; and Mrs. R. C. Hersh, county home demonstration president, were in charge of the “Outdoor Cookery” lesson. A musical and entertaining program was presented by the Good Neighbors home demonstration Club following the picnic. AUXILIARY PARLEY HAS LAST MEETING OF FISCAL YEAR Thirteen members of the past Presidents Parley of the American Legion auxiliary'met Monday evening at the Legion home for the July meeting, the last meeting of the fiscal year. With Mrs. Frances Monahan, president, conducting, final reports were given during the business session. Mrs. Vincent Bormann and Mrs. Ed Bauer were appointed to audit the books. The group voted to send a representative and a gift to the graduation of the student nurse the parley is sponsoring. Thank you letters from the war nurse and student nurse were also read. When pinochle .was played, the winners were the Mesdames Frank Liniger, Elmer Darwachter. and Lawrence Rash. Refreshments were served by the hostess, Mrs. Ed Bauer. Mrs. Vincent Bormann will be first hostess when the club initiates its new fiscal year in September. This evening the Decatur Weight Watchers will have their regular meeting at 8 p.m. at 1127 Nuttman. July picnic for the Ruth and’ Naomi circles of the First Presbyterian church will be Wednesday evening at 6:30 o’clock at the home of Mrs. Clark Mayclin. Wednesday evening the Pleasant Mills Baptist missionary society will convene at the home of Mrs. Lowel Noll at 7;30 p.m. Mary and Martha circles of the First Presbyterian church will gather for their July picnic Thursday at 1 p.m. at Hanna-Nuttman park. When Unit Two of the WSWS of the Bethany Evangelical United Brethren church meets at the home of Mrs. LaDoyt Miller, Mrs, Ray Eichenauer will serve as program chairman. Assistant hostesses for the meeting, which begins at 2 o'clock, will be Mrs. Ralph Habegger and Mrs. Walter Butcher. Mrs. Kenneth Gaunt will be hostess to the Thursday 8 p.m. meeting of Unit Four of the WSWS of the Bethany Evangelical United Brethren church. Friday evening at 7:30 o’clock, the Mount Tabor Methodist church WSCS will hold their regular meeting. WSWS of the Calvary Evangelical United Brethren church will meet with Mrs. Otis Shifferly Friday at 7:30 >.m. Mrs. Robert Brown is co-hostess; Coming up Friday at the Immanuel Lutheran school is a supper and ice cream social, beginning at 8 p.m. Sponsors are the two Union township 4-H clubs—the Pals and the Workers. Hanna-Nuttman park will be the scene of the Monday picnic of the Pythian sisters. The evening is slated to begin at 6 o'clock, and members are to. bring their own table service and one covered dish; "meat will be provided. Unit One of the WSWS of the Bethany Evangelical. Sullivan, son of Mr. and Mrs. John J. Sullivan, Sr., Tillman Road. Fort Wayne. Saturday morning at 11 o’clock in St. Joseph’s Catholic church on Hessen Cassel Road, the Rev. Mathias Bodinger officiating. Pro-nuptial music was presented by Mrs. James Webb and Harold I Mumma. Given in marriage by her father, the bride was attired in a gown of nylon tulle over crystal white taffeta. Alencon lace made the scalloped neckline, and the long bridal sleeves were marked by medallions of lace. The lace medallion motif was repeated on the bouffant skirt which swept to a circular brush train. A lace pillbox, trimmed in seed pearls, held her fin- j gertip veil. Her bridal bouquet was a spray of pink carnations and stephanotis with ivy. Matron of honor was Mrs. Wm. P. Church. Jr., sister of the bride. Her waltz length gown was of white spider web net. A blue taffeta sash encircled her waist, and floating panels extended to the hemline of the very full skirt. On her head was . a blue picture hat. and she carried a spray of white garcia mums interspersed with ivy. as did the bridesmaids, Mrs. Willis Noll and Mrs. Fred Koenig, sisters of the bridegroom. Friday, Mr. and Mrs. Robert Sautfcune returned home from California, where they spent ten days visiting with their son Richard, who is stationed in Long Beach with the Navy. While there, they also toured Hollywood, Mt. Palomar observatory, and Sequoia national park. Mrs. Lloyd Spiegel and Beverly and Dianne spent Sunday and Monday in Indianapolis visiting Mr. Spiegel, w|io is a patient at the Indianapolis Veterans Hospital, recovering from an operation. Randy and Vickie Everett, children of Mr. and Mrs. Donald Everett, Decatur, have returned home after spending several days visiting their cousins, Kenny and Gayle Foor, of Payne. O, After visiting this weekend with Mrs. Eugene Runyon, Mr, and Mrs. W. E. Hoffman, Indianapolis, and Mrs. Charles Binford, Detroit. Mich., returned to their homes Monday afternoon. Mrs. G. A.
