Legion Meeting Is Held Monday Night Give Entertainment At Vets Hospital The Decatur American Legion Post provided the entertainment for the Fort Wayne Veterans hospital Thursday, night, Charles Morgan, chairman of the hospital entertainment committee, report*ed at the meeting of Post 43. the American Legion, Monday. Several numbers by the LatinAmerican combo, and some solos by Miss Carol Schueller on the accordion were featured during the entertainment period. Not only the sick in the auditorium, but also those confined in their rooms were able to enjoy the fine program through a broadcasting j arrangement. Hospital visitation will be done by post 43 September 4. 11, and J 18. Four members of the post were listed as being in the hospital; John Jones, John Adams, Arthur Kleinhenz, and Doyle Laisure. Wing awards were presented to the members of the Legion who had enrolled the most members during the year. These went to Tillman Gehrig, Viricent Bormann, Charles Morgan, Hugh J. Andrews, James K. Staley, Robert Smith, Wendell Macklin, Don Cochran, Herman Bittner, the team of Walter Koeneman, ,Fred Bieberich, and Harold Huffman, and H. P. Schmitt, Jr. Several members passed on receiving their pins so that those who had never received them, but who had worked hard for new members, could have the pins. Slides of the Memorial Day services, including the parade, marine and naval observance, and speech'by the Rev. Virgil Sexton, were shown, together with slides .of the fourth district picnic at Pokagon state park, June 2. All state delegates and alternates were urged to attend the district meeting at Fort Wayne Post 47 Thursday night. The question of a regular color

Home Is Offered For Sale Third St. Building Is Offered For Sale - The Knights of Pythias lodge home, located at 107 North Third street, has been offered for sale with the Heller Real Estate Co,, and the Suttlef Cc„ according To Fred Kolter, linanclal secretary of the lodge. Built in 1909, the large building hrs been used since that time as a meeting place for the Knights of Pythias, the Pythian Sisters and the Pythian Sunshine Girls. Numerous other clubs and organisations have rented meeting roojms, and for several years,' the O. K. barber shop, operated by Forrest Elzey, occupied the southeast- corner room of the two story building. The brick building contains a large lodge room, two property! rooms, two club rooms, a large kitchen and banquet room, a 1c unge, reception room, three restrooms. numerous closets and Storage places, and a* full basement. Tentative plans of the lodge officials are that they will purchase a smaller building, to provide an income, which the previous building has not been doing. Variance Granted To Place Trailer The Decatur" boa rd of zoning appeals granted a variance to Floyd Acker, of 934 Walnut street, to "place a trailer temporarily on a lot on Washington street, directly behind Fritz Ellsworth s Hi-way service station. The lot is zoned B-l residential, and to move a trailer there, even temporarily, it" was necessary to get a variance from the board of zoning appeals.
Postal Increases Effective July 1 Boost In Special Postal Services WASHINGTON (UP)—The cost of a special delivery stamp goes up Monday from 20 cents to 30 cents. Charges for. registered and insured letters and money orders also go up. / These and bjhvr boosts in special postal -'Services, expected to hike post, office revenues 28 million dollars a year, were proposed last month by Postmaster General Arthur E. Summerfield. They are designed to help cut back the Post Office Department's yearly deficit Summerfield invited comments by June 15 on the proposed increases. A spokesman said few letters' were received. As a result the following changes will take effect July 1: Special delivery:. Increase from 20 cents to 30 cents for items up to two pounds; similar 10-cent increases in other weight categories Money offers: 5-cent increase on each order with a boost in the mfriimum charge from 10 to 15 cents. Registered .mail: Increase in the minimum fee from 40 cents to 50 cents with the rate for SI,OOO liability, the present maximum, raised from $1.75 to $2? The department proposes to expand liability up to SIO,OOO for which the charge will be $4.25. The return receipt fee will go up from 7 to 10 cents. Insurance fees: Increases tanging from 5 to 10 cents on items valued above SMK COD service: An increase from 20 cents to 50 cents on. any item which must be delivered into the hands of a specific person. Certified mail: Boost in service charge from 15 cents to 20 cents. Return receipt up from 7 to 10 cents. Charge for delivery to a specified person increased from 20 to 50 cents. Bauer Plans Suit Against Accuser NEW YORK <UP)—Cleared of a felonious assault charge by a grand jury. New York Yankee outielder Hank Bauer today planned to ile suit against his accuser for false arrest and malicious prosecution. The panel refused to indict Bauer Monday on a charge he slugged Edwin Jones, a delicatessen store proprietor, during an altercation in the Copacabana night club on May 15.
