Norquest, the agency’s county supervisor at Decatur/ He said, that the average age of the farmers using the agency's credit in Adams, Allen, Jay aqd Wells counties is the early 30’s. These young farmers are farm boys who had about ten years of /experience on their own at the . time they qualified for FHA credit. ■ They have substantial equities jn j their livestock and equipment but need additional credit to pjty operating expenses or to adopt im- ■ proved farm and home practices. With the funds advanced, the agency provides help in developing farm and home plans that make I full use of the young farm families' land and Tabor resources. Bachelor Explains MEMPHIS, Tenn. (UP) — Former U. S. Sen. Kenneth D. McKellar, at 88. a bachelor, said he made a mistake in not marrying.?. “I should have married young,” he explained. “Trouble was the older I got I became more particular and less desirable.". Develop Vaccine To Whip Cattle Disease Cattle Industry To Be Saved Millions INDIANAPOLIS’ (UP»-An Indianapolis pharmaceutical firm announced today the development and distribution of a new vaccine aimed at heading off a costly disease called infectious bovine rhinotracheitis. Pitman-Moore Co. said the new vaccine was “expected to save the cattle industry millions of dollars annually and have a favorable effect, on the American housewife’* budget.” The vaccine is known as Rhivax. It was developed by PitmanMoore’s research laboratories to combat the disease which attacks feed lot cattle and dairy herds. Pitman-Moore said the ,disease first made its appearance in a Colorado feedlot in 1950. By 1954 it spread through lots in eight big cattle feeding counties of northern Colorado, and by late 1956 it hit 9 out of 11 Western states. It has spread eastward (with cases reported' as far as Indiana and Ohio and other cases in Illinois, lowa, Wisconsin, South Dakota, Texas and Oklahoma, the firm said. The vaccine is produced much like the Salk polio vaccine Kidney tissue from calves is used to propagate virus in making a tissue culture product used in the process. For t Salk vaccine, kidney tissue from rhoesus monkeys is used. . IBR kifls many cattle and sickens other animals. Pitman-Moore said sick' animats lose weight and milk production which never is completely restored. By 1975, according to a B. F. Goodrich study, the U. S. population will have increased nerly 30 per cent over that of today, with an estimated 26.5 per cent more . people working and turning out 'llO per cent more goods.
