Mrs. Eisenhower was on the telephone to the White House doctor, Maj. Gen. Howard McC. Snyder, asking him to come at once to treat her ailing husband. One news photograph made of the President at the university ceremony Sunday night showed him standing rather grave-faced with one fist cfenched tightly. Even at that moment, he must have been fighting back the nausea
that made him so painfully uncomfortable later in the night. The President’s doctors believe that his upset was due in part to partaking too heavily of pastries and desserts, along wth some other foods a bit too rich for his somewhat restricted diet. Press Secretary James S. Hagerty was asked the other day whether Eisenhower was particularly fond of pastries and desserts.

Result—a luncheon dish as fresh-looking as a June garden. WHte Towers t 3 slices white bread Better er margarine j Cucumber slices marinated in vinegar and seasonings I tomato slices (2 medium tomatoes) ■ 1 can (6 1/2 ounces) crab, meat 3 tablespoons mayonnaise 1 tablespoon lemon juice 1 package (S ounces) cream cheese , ’ ; I/4rap milk Cut two two-and-one-half-indi rounds from each bread slice. Spread one side of each with butter or margarine. Place eight rounds on tray; top each with marinated cucumber slice, then bread round, then tomato slice and . MS'” Combine crab m«ao SA* on juice. Spread on top rounds. Place remaining bread rounds with buttered side next to crab meat mixture. Whip cream cheese with milk. Frost top and sides of each tower. Chill thoroughly before serving. Garnish as desired. Yield: Eight servings. Diced shrimp or grated lobster could be aubatituted for the crab meat in this recipe and would be good with the cucumbers and tomatoes. Serve these sandwiches with the other foods in this menu. It’s a delightful luncheon.
