Roosevelt Brothers Slightly Injured Light Plane Hits Fence At Takeoff FORT SCOTT, Kan. (UP) — Franklin D. Roosevelt Jr. and his pilot brother, Elliott, were bruised Wednesday when their light plane hit a fence on takeoff from the Fort Scott Airport. Neither was seriously injured. Elliott Roosevelt said the plane developed a brake drag and was slowed by a puddle of water on the wet runway. When he saw takeoff was impossible, he said, he cut the engine. The Beec|)craft Bonanza, a fourpassenger plane, was damaged in the nose and wings. Two passengers, James Smith Jr., manager of Franklin Roosevelt’s ranch near Poughquag, N.Y., and D. W. Chittenden, executive secretary of the American Polled Hereford Assn., were also unharmed. Elliott is in the cattle business at Meeker, Colo. Petition Court To Perform Operation Kidney Transplant Asked In Petition ~ BOSTON (UP) — The Massachusetts Supreme Court today considered a petition asking that doctors be allowed to perform a rare kidney transplant on a 15-year-old twin. • The twin is doomed unless the operation is performed within 30 days. The court will rule on the petition Wednesday. Frank Kilburn, an attorney, asked that doctors be given permission to transplant a healthy kidney from Leonard Masden to his ailing identical twin brother, Leon. The boys are from Shepherdsville, Ky. The petition, unprecedented, was presented because of legal technicalities arising out of the planned surgery. Neither youth can give consent to the surgery because each is a minor and the mother cannot legally give consent because it would be “an invasion of the person of Leonard which is not for his benefit.” Without proper authority, court officials said, the surgeons performing . the operation would be technically subject to civil suit. The kidney transplant, performed so far on identical twins, has been successful In three previous attempts at Peter Bent Brigham Hospital here. Trade ip a good town — uecatur t—

Reign Os Terror On Church Is Feared Anti-Catholic Move Is On In Viet Nam SAIGON, Vjet Nam (UP)-Ob-servers here fear that an antiCatholic campaign in the newspapers of Communist North Viet Nam might foreshadow a reign of terror against the church in the Reds’ Southeast Asia outpost. The campaign has been underway Jor two months. Officials of the American - backed government of South Viet Nam and Western diplomats are watching it. “It is too early," one diplomatic source told United Press, “to determine what new course may be taken against the Catholic Church in North Viet Nam. But it is obvious that something unpleasant is in store for Catholics up there ” Priests Accused Priests living under the Communist regime are being accused in the press of using the confessional and the pulpit for “espionage" and "propaganda.” Francis Cardinal Spellman, Roman Catholic archbishop of New York, has been mentioned in thg attacks. ' The attacks on priests have appeared in the Hanoi newspaper, Thoi Moi (New, Times*, which is controlled by the Communist government and Is often used to test policies before they receive official government sanction. The official Hanoi radio got into the act by charging that South Viet Nam President Ngo Dinh Diem — himself a Roman Catholic and a recent visitor to the United States — was “trying to expel the anti-American priests from his side.” Cardinal. Politics Linked The Communists linked Cardinal Spellman to this alleged political activity, saying that Diem "organized the American Catholic Relief Assn., which is headed by Spellman." Hanoi did not use the cardinal’s ecclesiastical title. North Viet Nam claims it allows full religious freedom to the Catholics who remained in Communist territory after 500,000 Catholic refugees moved to the south in 1954 in the last stages of the Indochina war. The church’s highest representative in Indochina, Msgr. John Dooley, still lives in Hanoi. Little is known here about the conditions under which he lives and works as the Vatican’s apostolic delegate. North Dakota records sub-zero temperatures on an average of 53 days out of the year and readings of 90 degrees or more on an average of 14 days a year.

Norquest, announces. Repayment on loans outstanding during the same period total almost $105,000. Heaviest demand has been for funds to purchase real estate, but almost as much has been loaned to buy livestock and machinery and to pay annual operating expenses.
