MISB GLADYS KERN IS . BRIDE OF HARRY GOSS Miss Gladys Kern, of Ossian, and Harry Goss, Martinsville, were married Thursday afternoon in the Ossian Methodist Church. Rev. Patterson, Ossian, and Rev. Edwin Greene, of Albion, officiated at the single ring ceremony. Attendants of the couple were Frank and June Ossenberg Goss. The former Miss Kern is a native of Decatur, taught in the local public schools before going to Kentucky, where she taught at Red Bird Mission for 20 years. Mr. and Mrs. Goss will be at home in Martinsville after June. 1. Guests attending the wedding from Decatur were Miss Dianne Linn, Mrs. L.. E. Linn, and Mr. and Mrs. W. L. Linn. MISS MARYLYN SMITH , FETED WITH LINEN SHOWER Miss Marylyn Smith, brideelect of George Liacopoulos, was honored with a linen shower at the home of Mrs. W. R. Roy, Dunwood Drive, Fort Wayne, last evening. The entertaining rooms were decorated with miniature umbrellas, crepe paper streamers and flowers in orchid and white. A lighted miniature organ, brdegroom and attendants centered the gift table. Prizes for contests won during the evening were presented to the bride-elect by each respective, contestant, Miss Rita Richter, Miss Josephine DePew, and Mrs. Anne K. -Smith. The twenty-one guests attending were former classmates of Miss Smith, graduate nurse of St. Joseph hospital school of nursing, Fort Wayne. PREBLE BUNNY CIRCLE HOME DEMONSTRATION CLUB MEETS The Preble recreation center was the scene of the regular meeting of the Preble Sunny Circle home demonstration club Tuesday evening. * Mrs. Dale Brandt presented a citizenship lesson, and a health and safety lesson was given by Mrs. Orley Barkley. A lesson on freezing was given by Mrs. Glen Girod and Mrs. Edwin Reifsteck. Prizes were awarded to Mrs. Truman Goldner for being the mother with the most children and Mrs. Marvin Conrad for having the youngest child. Devotions were given by Mrs. Walter Hildebrand, and the meeting was closed with the club prayer. Refreshments were served by Mrs. William Werling and Mrs. Walter Hildebrand. MERRIER MONDAYS MEETING HAS MOTHERS DAY THEME Mrs. Robert Mitchel, president, opened the meeting of the Merrier Mondays club by introducing two guests, Mrs. Richard Harvey and Mrs. Robert Baxter. Following the Mothers Day theme carried throughout the meeting, the 21 members present answered roll call by telling “Our Mother’s Favorite Flower.” Secretary's and treasurer’s reports were read by Mrs. Jim Arnold and Mrs. Gerhard Witte, respectively. Mrs. Gene Bluhm gave a lesson on freezing foods, plus a demonstration on making meat boats, Mrs. Eugene Murchland read a poem, and lead the group in sanging “Carry Me Back To Old Virginny.” Mrs. Richard Borne gave the citizenship lesson on “Traffic Safety,” with Mrs. Carlton Worthman, Mrs. Leßoy Kolter, Mrs. Harold Arnold, Mrs. Homer Arnold, Jr., Mrs. Gene Hurst, and Mrs. Irvin Liechty taking part in the traffic safety quiz. Mrs. Arthur Adams was in charge of the health and safety lesson on “Good Posture With Exercise,” with Mrs. Irvin Worthman assisting. In the business meeting, a card shower was planned for this week for Mrs. Charles Sheets, Otis Hospiltal, Celina. Ohio, and Mrs. Don Arnold, Toomey Pavilion, Division 27, City Hospital, Cleveland, Ohio. June 29 the members plan to take their husbands out for a ham supper. ,Secret pal gifts were exchanged and the clever centerpiece arrangement of handkerchief parasols were awarded to the youngest mother, Mrs. Richard Harvey, oldest mother, Mrs. Irvin Worthman, mother with most children, Mrs. Eugene Murchland. mother with youngest son, Mrs. Homer Arnold, Jr., mother with youngest daughter, Mrs. Richard Borne, and the youngest club member, Mrs. Dee Myron Byerly. Refreshments were served by Mrs. Gene Bluhm, and co-hostess was Mrs. Roger Longenberger. Mrs. Arthur Adams will be hostess to the club's next meeting, which will begin at 8 o’clock, June 17. Mrs. Darrel Arnold closed the meeting with prayer and the scripture. Sacred Heart Study club will meet at the home of Mary Heimann Tuesday at 8 o’clock. Flo-Kan Sunshine Girls will meet Monday at the K. of P. home at 6:30 p.m. It is urgent to have all members present. Mrs. A. R. Ashbaucher will be hostess to the Art department of the Woman’s club. The called ' meeting will begin at 7:30 p.m. Monday. I Pocahantas Lodge will meet Tuesday at 6 p.m. for a business meeting. After Wards, they will go to Dunkirk for a meeting. i | Thursday night the Evening Circle Four of the WSWS of the Bethany Evangelical United Brethren church will meet with Mrs. Karl Johnson, at 751 Parkview Drive, at 8 o’clock. The Adams County Farm Bureau vaiety show will be held Tuesday evening at 8 o’clock at the Co-op administration building in Monroe. Contestants of individual townships will compete, and the winners of the county competition will then participate in the district contest. The public is invited. NIPSCO Directors Declare Dividend The board of directors of Northern Indiana Public Service company declared a dividned of 81,0625 on the 4% per cent cumulative preferred stock; 81.12 a share on the 414 per cent cumulative preferred stock; and 81.05 a share on the 4.22 per cent cumulative preferred stock of the company, Dean H. Mitchell, NIPSCO president, announced today. Authorities Report Quiet Holiday Here Only Minor Wrecks In Decatur, County City police, w»e county sheriff’s office, and the state police reported a Quiet Memorial Day in Adams county Thursday. Walter P. Knoche, 63, of Miami, Fig,, was charged with improper passing following an accident about 2% miles south of Coppess Corner at the Mel Liechty intersection Wednesday at 5:30 p. m. Knoche’s vehicle collided with one driven by Menno P. Steury, 56, of route 1, Berne, as Steury turned left off U. S. highway 27 while headed south on that highway. Knoche was attempting to pass as Steury turned. Damage was estimated at SSOO to the Knoche vehicle, and $125 to Steury’s car. The right front side, radiator, grill,* and bumper of Knoche’s car were damaged, while the left front side, hood, and a wheel eap were damaged on Steury’s auto. Knoche, who is vacationing in the Fort Wayne area for the summer, will appear in court this evening. The accident was investigated by deputy sheriff Robert Meyer and the state police. Mrs. Geneva E. Schantz, 34, of Battle Creek, Mich., was fined a total of $24.75 for speeding 84 miW an hour in U. S. 27 three miles north of Decatur Memorial Day. Mrs. Schantz was arrested at 10:35 a. m, by the state police, and appeared before justice of the peace Floyd Hunter. ' Two cars suffered a total of about S9O in damages in a collision at 13th street and Adams Wednesday. A car driven by Bernard F. Johnson, 36, of Fort Wayne, collided with the right back fender of a vehicle driven by Mrs. John Hirschy, of 122 S. 15th street. Damage was estimated by city police as $45 to each car. Another minor accident reported to the city police Thursday involved cars driven by Richard LHendricks, 36, of 121 N. 15th street and Ralph E. Smith, Jr., of 1135 Marshall street. The accident occurred in an alley between 13th and 14th streets, and about $25 damage was done to the Hendricks vehicle. Oliver L. Frye, 26, of Wytherville, Va., arrested Wednesday for speeding 55 miles an hour in a truck three miles west of Decatur on U. S. highway 224, was fined a total of $19.75 by justice of the peace Floyd Hunter. Warren R. Hoover, 35, of Valparaiso, was arrested Wednesday evening by the state police for speeding 75 miles an hour four miles north of Decatur on U. S. highway 27. John G. Bunner, 51, of route 3, was arrested Tuesday at the Monmouth road and Second street
for disregarding a stop sign. He will appear in justice of the peace court June 3. > Doris A, Drake was fined a total of $15.75 for not having a valid operator’s license. The Nesswald sisters have purchased the Brant property on North Second street, and will move there Saturday. Ralph Knoff, of Pittsburgh, Pa., and June Knoff, of Chicago, his niece, former Decatur residents, visited in Decatur over Memorial Day. Sarah Sutton, 12-year-old daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Jesse Sutton, is expected home from the Lutheran hospital next week. She is recuperating from a serious spinal operation and will be in bed at least three months. Mr. and Mrs. Jack Heller and sons Eric and Stephen, and Mr. and Mrs. John McConnell and son, left Thursday for a two weeks’ vacation in Florida.
