United Press correspondent Robert Monahan talked with South Korean President Syngman Rhee and American and Korean military commanders to make the following report. By ROBERT MOIMaRAN United Press Staff Correspondent SEOUL (UP) — Intelligence reports show the Communists have brought atomic weapons into North Korea in violation of the Korean armistice agreement. U.S. military commanders, whose job is to guarantee the security of the South Korean republic, privately condemn the unbalanced situation here as "militarily unsound.” Some go further in private and call it “stupid.” Serious consideration has been given by army leaders to abrogating Paragraph 13-D of the armistice agreement, which forbids the introduction of new and modern equipment into Korea. Korean President Syngman Rhee told United Press in an interview that the danger of an attack from the north is greater now than any time since the armistice was signed four years ago. bases in South Korea. According to intelligence sources the Communists have: —Brought atomic weapons into North Korea and taught their army how to use them. —Built more than 20 fields capable of handling jets in North Korea only minutes away from vital targets in the south. —Built up a 770-plane ■ air force which includes some 500 Mig jet fighters and about 100 Soviet-built twin-jet IL2B attack bombers. —lncreased the North Korean army from 287,000 men at armistice time to 302,000 today. , American commanders say that; on the other hand, the United Nations Command has scrupulously observed the armistice terms. The result is that anti - Communist forces are equipped with inferior, outdated equipment, the commanders report.
