Adams county farmers are working almost around the clock these days to catch up on their work, stopped by heavy rains. Driving through this area almost any night, you can see tractor lights in every direction. Most farmers report that they will have the bulk of their work done in another week or ten days. hi ’ O H O Jury trials, filing of pew cases and hearing of numerous venued cases have combined to make the present term of Court a busy one tor Judge Myles F. Parrish, who never stops entering orders and deciding legal points. In addition to his regular Court work, Judge Parrish takes several nights each week to deliver school and club Addresses. The Judge says he will catch up on his routine work during his scheduled vacation. —o—o— Newspapers are full of motor tragedies. Many have occurred in the last few days right close to home. Still automobile inanufacturers continue to stress horsepower and speed in their latest creations and they are now joined by gasoline and oil producers. Whoever heard of a revolver manufacturer advertising that their gun would “Kill you o -o — Efficient County Treasurer Waldo Neal has completed his balancing of the county’s books for the tax collection period for the first six months of the year. There are very few delinquents, Treasurer Neal reports, which fact speaks well for the community. Adams county has few tax sales and this fact reveals that we live in a prosperous community where the big majority of land owners pay their bills promptly. £■ ■ o o— — Tbp Presidential Secretary Sherman Adams is the latest of the G.O.P. bigwigs to admit that largest federal budget ever proposed can stand more than a billion and a half dollars of shaving. Since we. the people, pay for this apparent government waste, why do we stand still for it. If Mr. Adams admits that so much moficy can be saved, why couldn’t the saving be doubled? Who can we trust with our money these days?

■Several new gasoline filling stations soon will be ready for opening in this area. Texaco and Mobil both have new stations on U.S. highway 224, just east of Decatur. Each is strictly modern with wide driveways and attractively dressed up. ——o o—— Your attention is again called to watch for children playing in streets when you’re driving these days. Some child accidents are unavoidable, but the driver who has full control of his car at all times has a better chance of averting tragedy. ' —erO— —O—— Young people are planning now to enter the ’Decatur Library summer reading project which will start June 3. Last year several hundred people of this area took advantage of improving their knowledge and spent their leisure hours with books. Ibis y4ar there is every indication that the number of entrants in the project will grow. This year’s program has as its theme, “World Traveler,” and the reader will be taken into all parts of the world with interesting stories. It’s a valuable' way to take up the summer slack in time and at the same time add valuable knowledge. You are invited to join the project. ——o o The Cole administration has done a great job, so far, in preparing a healthy growth for the City of Decatur. In a year and a half under Mayor Robert Cole and his excellent officials, work has started to. provide Decatur with an unlimited amount of electricity. This is supplemented with toe drilling of new wells to augment the present water supply. Streets are kept in excellent condition. Decatur is policed in such a manner that residents have no fear of petty thievery and hold ups. Women and children are safe on our streets. The Community is regarded as one of the finest in Indiana. This doesn’t just happen. It takes many hours of planning and working. Officials are constantly busy better# ing every situation. There is very little unemployment. Our fire department has an enviable record. We challenge any city in' Indiana to match the fine Decatur record.

I ” Modern Etiquette j BY ROBERTA UCT | Q. When a house guest wishes to give his hostess a little gift of appreciation K when should be present it? A. He may bring it along and present it soon after his arrival, at some time during his visit, or send it to her soon after his return home. This, of course, does not relieve him of his obligation to write that all-important ‘bread and butter” letter to his hostess promptly after his return home. Q. What is the proper way to eat Italian spaghetti? A- It is probably better to avoid e*mbarrassmerit or mishap by breaking it with the fork, unless you are very dexterous and thoroughly experienced in the Italian manner of eating it. Q. When the gests begin lighting cigarettes after a meal in someone’s home. and you find there is no ashtray near you, is it right to use one of the used dishes in front of you?’ A. Never. Don’t light your cigarette until you have asked your hostess if you may have an ashtray.
