V.i.W. LADIES AUXILIARY HAS BUSINESS MEETING Members of the V.F.W. Ladies auxiliary met recently at the V. F, W. home for a regular business meeting. Twelve members were in attendance. The door prize was won by Crystal Hook, and the "boobie” prize was awarded to Fern Augsburger. Plans were made for a public party. which the group will conduct at the V. F. W. home May 21, at 8 p.m, Alma Hunter was appointed chairman of the project, and all members are asked to bring baked goods. The public is invited to attend. BPW CLUB CELEBRATES TWENTIETH ANNIVERSARY Members of the Decatur Business and Professional Women’s Club celebrated their 20th anniversary with a special dinner and program at the Decatur Youth and Community Center, Wednesday evening. A reception was held for members and guests at six-thirty, followed by a turkey dinner served by the center staff. The U-shaped table was centered with a bouquet of yellow roses and snapdragons, flanked by yellow tapers. Yellow candles and lemon leaves adorned the other serving tables and each place was marked with a small potted plant. Miss Marlene Laurent, retiring president, gave the welcome and introduced the guests. Those attending from out-of-town included: Mrs. Gertrude Fish, Miss Madeline Fish, Miss Blanche Watson, and Miss Myra Luecke of Fort Wayne, and Mrs. Erma Bair, Mrs. Grant and her mother from Findlay, Ohio. Mrs. Dorothy L. Flechtner, president of the Ohio state federation, gave the main address. She stressed leadership, participation, and good parliamentary procedure in her talk on the federation. Afterwards, she conducted the installation ceremony for the incoming officers: Mrs. Hubert Feasel president: Mrs. Francis Howard, first vice-president; -Miss Matilda Sellemeyer. second vice-president; Miss Rheta Butcher, recording secretary: Miss Barbara Bowman, corresponding secretary; and Mrs. Joe Kelley, treasurer. During the new business meeting, Mrs. Feasel announced that Mrs. Joe Kelley, Mrs. Harry James, and Miss Joan Wemhoff would represent the Decatur club at the state convention, May 17 and 18 in Chicago. The membership committee was in charge of the anniversary program with Miss Joan Wemhoff as chairman, assisted by Miss Rosemary Spangler, Miss Vera VanBusirk, Mrs. Norman Guard, and. Miss Imogene Beihold. The annual mother and daughter potluck supper of the Trinity Evangelical United Brethren church will be held at the church, Tuesday evening at 6 o’clock. Mrs. Edith Houck will be hostess to the Kirkland Women's Christian Temperance Union, Tuesday afternoon at 1:30 o’clock. (AHTNC) — Pvt. Carroll L. Scott, son of Mrs. Eva E. Scott, route 3, Decatur, began six months of active military training under the reserve forces act program at Fort Leonard Wood, Mo. Scott is receiving eight weeks of basic combat training, which will be followed by advanced individual and unit training. Voglewede and daughter, Mrs. Walt Egan, returned today from a several days' visit with the Kevin Whelan family, and Miss Mayme Terveer, at Toledo, 0., and the Robert Voglewede family at Detroit, Mich. Mrs. Egan will leave Friday for her home at South Augusta, N. C. The Portland city council is studying "the annexation of adjoining properties which have city type residences on them, to broaden the tax base of the city. A wrongful death award of 811,500 was made to the estate of Hansel E. Stewart in the Wells Circuit court by jury this week. Stewart was one of four persons killed May on U. S. 24 east of Fort Wayne. It is the largest wrongful death award ever made in Wells county The Berne-French high school yearbook, "Our Yesterday,” is being distributed this'week. Roger Luginbill, of Roswell, N. M., son of Mr. and Mrs. Elmer Luginbill of Berne, is one of 20 science teachers selected to attend the radiation biology course at Duke University this summer, June 18 through August 12. Bluffton will spend 813,000 resurfacing and sealing city streets this summer. Voters in the Spencerville, 0., school district, turned down a new high school building program, 680257, in voting Tuesday. In Delphos, 0., Robert E. Bonifas was nominated over former Mayor John Lehmkuhle as Democratic candidate by a vote of 206 to 77. He will oppose incumbent Republican mayor Margaret, Miller next November. Max Miller, was nominated by write-in votes in the fourth ward of Van Wert, 0., by getting 32 of 46 votes in the Democratic primary. He will oppose Roger Stienecker, a Republican, in the November election.

Alan Habegger gave a demonstration of how to correctly fill in the books, after which Jerry Gerber gave the health and safety lesson.. The next meeting will be'held May 21, at the Adams Central school. The club leaders include Harold Schwartz, Eli Schwartz and Martin Habegger. Up and At It The Blue Creek Up and At It 4-H club met Tuesday at the Kimsey school, with the president, Ruth Sipe, conducting the meeting. Ruth Sipe was the devotional leader, reading from the 13th chapter of I Corinthians. Karen Foor and Connie Sipe led the pledges, and Marie Riley led in singing. Seventeen members, two leaders and one guest answered roll call, after which Kathy Brunstrup, Barbara Wechter, Marie Riley, and Barbara Carver gave a report on the officers training school which they attended recently at Adams Cen‘tral. Marie Riley and Sharon Young presented a demonstration. “Pref :r equipment for baking”. It was announced that the third year members are to bring a chocolate cake with frosting to the next meeting, and that all members in food preservation are to bring food like that which they, will exhibit at the. annual 4-H fair. During the health and safety feature, each member told of a hazard in her own home which she plans to correct. As a special feature in honor of Mother's day, Bonnie Wheeler and Pauline Ripley sang "My Mother's Bible.” Barbara Wheeler and Barbara Wechter led in games, and refreshments were served by Linda Rayl and Barbara Tinkham. Sodbusters The St. Mary’s Sodbusters held their fourth regular meeting May 7 at the Pleasant Mills school. The meeting was opened by vice-presi-dent Mike McGill. The pledges were then led by John Noll and Paul Rich. Next a talk on gardening was given by David Rash. Then a talk on entomology was given by Wilfred Morrison. Plans for a wienner roast were made, and it was decided to hold it on the grounds of the Pleasant Mills school, May 28. The food committee is as follows: John Noll, Mike McGill, and Nancy Bailey. Fifteen members and three leaders were present for the meeting, and refreshments Were served after the meeting was adjourned.

Home Demonstration Clubs Planning Tour Trip To Canadian Rockies In August Plans for a sight-seeing trip to the Canadian Rockies are being, completed by the home demonstration clubs and choruses of northern Indiana. The trip is the 12th annual tour sponsored by Indiana-Ohio farm organizations. The trip this year is scheduled for August 21 to 30 and is one of the most scenic tours on the North American continent. The group will Leave Fort Wayne Aug. 21 and enjoy a daylight ride up the Missisippi River and across Minesota and the Dakotas, and arrive at Banff, Canada, Friday morning, Aug. 23. They will tour the Canadian Rockies and Lake Louise, as well as other scenic points. On Au£. .28. they will be in Vancouver, B V C„ and enjoy the many places of beauty and interest there. The next stop will be Victoria, B. C. The trip from Vancouver to Victoria will be made by steamer. They will travel again by steamer to Seattle for tours of that city. The trip home will be through the Cascade and Rocky Mountain ranges. The group will arrive back in Fort Wayne Friday evening, Aug. 30. Mrs. Albert Berg of 3314 Spring street. Fort Wayne, is general chairman of the tour. Assisting her are Mrs. Donald Houser, Mrs. Fred Dickes and Mrs. Otto Kirchner, all of Fort Wayne. The trip will be an all-expense tour. The price of the ticket includes all food, rail fare, baggage transfers, tips, sight-seeing ana tour guides. A speciat family rate is available for husbands and wives on the trip. Although the tour is planned primarily for farm extension organization members and their families, any interested person is invited to participate. Reservations must be made with Mrs. Berg by July 1. Akansas rates about one-third of its area as farm land and more than 67 per cent of its population as rural.
