Fireworks Company Rocked By Blasts $40,000 Loss At Plant At Dayton DAYTON, Ohio (IP) — Two spectacular explosions rocked the United Fireworks Co. Monday night only hours after a visiting Japanese fireworks manufacturer praised the plant for its safety features. Officials estimated the loss of two buildings destroyed in the blasts at $40,000. One fireman was injured slightly and was treated at the scene. The last shift had left the plant more than four hours before. Arthur Hinkle, the night watchman. said he was in a car several hundred yards from the explosions. "Flames shot way up into the sky with flowers and clusters of fireworks all over the place,” he said. "It was beautiful in away. The explosion was tremendous and shook the ground.” Walter Beachler, owner of the plant, could offer no explanation of the explosions, which occurred about 8:30 p.m. BECK <Cootlaae< tiw F«K« Peel Question of Resignation In answer tp inquiries as to whether the union Executive Board would ask for Beck’s resignation. the board passed a resolution saying his resignation had never been discussed or requested. But sources close to the union said they expected the question of resignation by Beck, Brewster and Brennan to be discussed among the union’s leaders in the next several weeks. Beck so far has not backed down from his announced intention to run for reelection at the union’s September convention. Nor have the other two national officers announced any intention to quit their posts. But several union officers, including Secretary-Treasurer John R. English, Vice Presidents William Lee of Chicago and Thomas Hickey of New York are understood to be prepared to do everything they can to keep the union within the AFL-CIO. Amman: King Hussein said in a television interview Monday evening that “alien doctrines” contray to Arab tradition . and spiritual belief could never exist in Jordan. This was regarded, as an oblique reference to communism which the King has often denounced. Cairo: The government controlled Cairo Radio held up results of the leftist victories in the Syrian by-elections this weekend as the freely expressed will of the Arab peoples. The broadcast was directed to the NATO powers and said the Syrian vote reaffirmed the Arab policy of “positive neutrality.” Damascus: The Syrian newspaper Al Insha said the crucial by-elections were ‘characterized by communism" and that the 'Soviet embassy openly intervened in the preparation and execution of the government’s victory plans. London: British Minister of Transport Harold Watkinson warned Monday night that maritime nations will gradually by-pass the Suez Canal with super tankers and new pipe lines to keep themselves independent from Egyptian terms. •
