Rules Ossian Woman Os Unsound Mind Ordered Committed To State Hospital BLUFFTON, Ind. (UP) — A Wells Circuit Court judge late Monday ruled that Mrs. Barbara L. Sommer, 25, Ossian, was of unsound mind last April 12 when she almost killed her Infant child and ordered her committed to Richmond State Hospital. Eight-month-old Barbara Jean Sommer was found near death'in her crib by the child’s father, Paul, when he returned from work. The baby had been choked. Sommer rushed the infant to Lutheran HosEital at Fort Wayne where she still i under a doctor's care. Assault and battery charges had been filed against Mrs. Sommer and she was given the choice of awaiting trial in jail or entering a hospital for a psychiatric examination. Psychiatrists reported her mental illness had been evident over a period of time and existed at the time she choked her child. Prosecutor Joseph F. Eichhorn indicated the assault and battery charge may be dismissed. X . > n //// 5 1 * Hardy Workers Fred Mann conducted the recent meeting of the Monroe Hardy Workers 4-H, club which was held at the Adams Central school. Brian McCullough led in the 4-H pledge, and Marilyn Stuck led in the pledge to the American flag. Roll call was answered by 25 members, and two visitors and Mrs. Mike Ehrasm, leader, were also present for the meeting. Numerous demonstrations were given by club members. They include Georgianna Essex, baking; Olin Moeschfoerger, electricity; Alice Steiner, handicraft; Bruce Mann, baking; Fred Mann, handicraft; and Joceylyn McCullough, clothing. The next meeting will be held at Adams Central, at 1 o'clock May 13. Union Pals Jane Wass conducted the recent meeting of the Union Pals 4-H club, which was held at the Immanuel Lutheran school. Ann Lehrman read the minutes of the last meeting, and Jean Wass gave a health and safety report. Then Jean and Jane, along with Dorothy Bleeke, gave a demonstration on a vegetable centerpiece. New Telephone Co. Directories Mailed A total of 6,200 telephone direc-> torles was mailed out today to Citizen telephone subscribers in this area. Included in the mailing were Decatur. Pleasant Mills, Monroe, Berne, Bryant, and Linn Grove". The directory is published annually for distribution in May. 1 " lllll | Urges McCarthy's Widow Be Named APPLETON, Wis. (UP) — Rep. Alvin O’Konski (R-Wls.) today urged that Wisconsin laws be changed to enable the young widow of Sen. Joseph R. McCarthy to serve out his unexpired term. O’Konski proposed that Gov. Vernon Thomson be asked to seek the power from the Legislature to appoint a successor. Wisconsin law now requires a special election to fill the vacancy.

County Treasurer's Office Here Closed The office of the county treasurer was closed today and will remain closed for the remainder of the week to enable office personnel to post tax payments made during the past several weeks. Waldo Neal, county treasurer, stated that all taxpayers who neglected to make their payments of spring installments must now pay a delinquency penalty.
