Coming Attractions At Adams Theater One of the truly great motion pictures of the current season is “Heaven Knows, Mr. Allison” starring Deborah Kerr and Robert Mitchum, which plays at the Adams Sunday and Monday. The two stars are seen as a gentle nun, “Sister Angela,” and a tough Marine who are trapped behind enemy lines on a small tropic isle. The adventures make of an exciting and stirring movie. John Huston, famous director of “Moby Dick,” "African Queen” and other big hits, produced the picture in Cinemascope and color. Van Johnson is seen as a smalltime vaudeville actor in “Kelly and. Me”, the Techincolor comedy hit playing at the Adams Tuesday Wednesday and Thursday. “Kelly" is a wonderfully intelligent Shepherd dog, whose inclusion in his act catapults Johnson to the big time. Others in the cast are cute Piper Laurie, Martha Hyer and Onslow Stevens.
Enlistments Open In Local Reserve Youths May Enlist In Army Reserves Decatur or area young men between the ages of 17 and 18% may join the army reserve’s special plan and serve six months of active duty, and three years reserve service in Service Battery, 424th Field Artillery Battalion? stationed in Decatur, Capt. William F. Gernand, commander, said today. Five Decatur young men are already enrolled in the program, which drastically cuts their active duty service. Youths may enrol! immediately on completing their junior year. They will be deferred from active service until graduation from high school. If not in high school, they may be deferred 120 days. Young men under this plan will serve six months active service, three years in the ready reserve, which includes the local unit, and 4% years in the standby reserve, a paper force, with no active training. Draftees now serve two years active service, two years in the ready reserve, such as the local unit, and two years in the standby reserves. For each year of active service over two, a year of active reserve braining is omitted, so that with four years active service, a youth has only two years in the standby reserve. In the local reserve unit a youth would train each Tuesday night for two hours, and attend a two weeks’ summer camp. This year the group will go to Fort McCoy, Wis., July 14-28. Men training in the local group get the advantage of training with many veterans, who know their jobs. Service company is now largely composed of men who have served on active duty.
