Cubs And Pirates Exchange Players PHILADELPHIA (UP) — The Chicago Cubs are expected today to follow up their two-for-two deal with the Pittsburgh Pirates by peddling veteran pitcher Bob Rush to the St. Louis Cardinals. In exchange for the fireballing, 31-year-old Rush, the Cubs are reported to be asking for Eddie Kasko, a 24-year-old shortstop, plus another player. The Cardidinals have been iseeking to obtain Rush since last winter. The Cubs and Pirates, both off to disappointing starts, broke the trade log-jam Wednesday with a deal that sent first baseman Dee Fondy and infielder Gene Baker to Pittsburgh and first baseman Dale Long and outfielder Lee Walls to Chicago. Both clubs said no cash was involved. Vice President Charley Grimm said that Long and Walls were obtained to give the Cubs, the weakest hitting team in the league, some punch. Long set a major, league record by homering in eight straight games last season and drove in 91 runs although he hit only .263. Walls, 24, hit 11 homers, drove in 54 runs and batted .274 for the Pirates last year. In Pittsburgh, manager Bobby Bragan said the acquisition of the 31-year-old Baker "will give us the best infield since I came to Pittsburgh last year.” Bragan plans to play Baker at shortstop, moving Dick Groat to third, and keeping Bill Mazeroski at second and Frank Thomas at first. Ray Robinson Regains Title From Fullmer CHICAGO (UP)—Veteran Sugar Ray Robinson, the ring's revivified superman whose devastating left hook made hifn world middleweight champion for an unprecedented fourth time, indicated today he will defend against welter ruler Carmen Basilio in a midJuly mUijon-dollar fight. Fresh from his spectacular fifth-round knockout over Gene Fullmer — the most glorious victory of his 17-year career—Sugar Ray said, “I’ll be ready to match my new matador-bull style against Basilio any time the money is right.” The ‘ 36-year-old “m atad or” blasted the bull-necked, bull-shoul-dered Fullmer to the canvas for a knockout at 1:27 of the fifth round in Chicago Stadium before 14,753 Wednesday night. - Fullmer, who had taken the title from Robinson on a unanimous decision last January, was hit so ■hard that he said, “I never knew what happened to me until they were telling me in the corner I was counted out.” Sugar 3-1 Underdog Sugar Ray, the 3-1 underdog who still packed enough dynamite to kayo Fullmer for the first time in his career of 44 fights, is such an attraction now that promoter Jim Norris believes a defense against rugged Basilio, another who never was stopped, should draw close to a million dollars at New York’s Yankee Stadium, probably July 16 or 23. Robinson, who was carefully schooled by ex-champion Joe Louis while training for Fullmer, changed the pattern of his fighting completely Wednesday night—when compared to his January strategy. And the changes — coupled with his explosive left hook—won for him. He shuffled persistently toward Fullmer, but refrained from leading at him with left jabs or straight rights. Instead, he feinted Fullmer into leading with his own charging, swarming attack. And then Ray countered him. In January, Robinson made the mistake of leading at Fullmer and letting Fullmer counter with his charges. Fullmer, who landed more punches but less effective ones during Wednesday night’s brief encounter, was leading slightly on all three official score cards by the identical score, 19-18. And that ;witto to? sheet. Ray Hit With Lien Gene and Ray earned purses of $67,480 each from the 8158,643 gross gate and SIOO,OOO TV-radio fee. However, Uncle Sam has slapped a tax lien of $23,000 on Robinson's loot. Fullmer, the muscular mauler from West Jordan, Utah, said, “Naturally I’d like to get a rubber match with him for the title, but 1 guess we’ll have t o wait and see what happens to Robinson’s negotiations with Basilio.” Utah Gene, at 159% pounds, weighed two pounds more than in January and was expected to be stronger at the new weight. Robinson scaled 159% this time, just a half pound less than at New York. If you have something to sell or rooms for rent, try a Democrat Want Ad, it brings results.

Commodores Defeated By Marion Rally A last-inning rally by Marion Bennett took the Decatur Commodores down to a 4-3 defeat at Marlon Wednesday afternoon in a Central Indiana Catholic conference game. The Commodores held a 3-1 lead going into the final toning but Marion broke through for three runs to win the conference tilt. Marion scored its first run to the second a walk, fielder’s choice, Infield out and a wild pitch. Decatur tied the score in the third when Ford opened with a walk, moved up on a sacrifice and an error, and scored on Beal's stogie. Kable doubled to open tire fourth, stole third and tallied on Ellenberger's stogie. Decatur’s third run counted to the sixth when Reed walked, was sacrificed to second, and tallied on EHenberg-
