RED CROSS (CoTitfr from nn«l Red Cross goes into the administrative costs of the national organization and its 3,700 chapters. He thinks this is a reasonable overhead cost, in view of the fact that the paid staff forms a necessary nucleus for the huge volunteer , fdree which donates “hundreds of millions of man-hours of service every year.” Another “misconception” concerns the relief job the Red Cross ! performs when a flood tornado, ) hurricane or other disaster strikes • an American community. ‘‘l find that many people think of the Red Cross primarily in terms of emergency reliefblankets, first aid station,s hot meals for rescue workers and that sort of thing. “Actually K this is the smallest part of our work in a disaster. More than 90 per cent of the funds we spend for relief goes for long- I term rehabilitation of the disaster victims—repair and rebuilding of homes, replacement of ruined furnitures weekly allowances for food; new clothing; continuing medical care. Roughly one-third of the Red Cross budget goes into disaster relief. Another third goes for aid < to members of the armed forces and their families. And here again Gruenther finds a nationwide “misconception” of Red Cross work. Gary Man Confesses To Pair Os Slayings Faces Questioning For Other Murders CROWN POINT, Ind. (UP)—A Sex psychopath who admitted the rape-slayings of a beauty operator and a teenaged girl faced further questioning today in the unsolved murders of several other women. Authorities also arrested the confessed murderer’s wife, the mother of one child, as a possible accomplice in one of the killings. Both were former mental patients. Police said George Robert Brown, 25, a Gary steelworker, bh>ke down Wednesday and orally confessed the slaying of pretty Lana Brock, 16, New Chicago, Ind. Brown then took police to the sand dune area where he said he buried the girl, still-alive at the tjme, under tons of sand after assAWting and choking her last Sept. 24. The shifting sands uncovered Miss Brock’s body last Oct. 2. An autopsy showed her lungs contained sand, indicating she died of Suffocation. Tlie spot was only two miles from where police, at Brown’s direction, uncovered the body of Mrs. Mildred Grigonis, 30, a Gary beauty shop operator who disappeared 25 days before the Brock murder. Brown admitted Tuesday he raped and strangled Mrs. Grigonis and buried her in a similar grave in the desolate dunes area. Chicago authorities said they planned to question Brown today about the unsolved killings of two teenaged sisters whose nude bodies were found in a ditch west os] Chicago. The girls, Barbara, 15, and Patricia Grimes, 13, disappeared last Dec. 28 after leaving their Chicago home to attend a movie. Their bodies were found Jan. 22. PROBE BY GRAND (€>«■ tinned trow O—, they would testify that Teverbaugh was one of two highway officials who bought the back lot from their parents. BENSON URGES (CsailiweS cron, P«k« O—> $562,100,000 for designated nonbasics; $365,000,000 for other nonbasics; and $188,200,000 unallocable costs. The secretary made three points i® his letter to Ellender: 1. Controls art not effective in reducing overall agricultural production, despite the severe 'restrictions they impose on farmers’ freedom to produce and market. 2. Agricultural products are likely to continue to be abundant. Under such conditions they cannot be successfully priced as if they were scarce. 3. TTie present legal formulas governing acreage allotments and price supports are proving obsolete. ~,.He... said the fact that production per farm worker has doubled in the last 15 years “creates a new dimension in farm policy and makes it virtually impossible to curtail agricultural output with the type of controls acceptable in our society.” Trade in a good town — Decatur

Flareup Threatened In Border Dispute Nicaragua Reports 35 Soldiers Killed MANAGUA, Nicaragua W — A 50-year-old border dispute between . Nicaragua and Honduras threatened today to blow up into a fullfledged war. Nicaragua said 35 of its soldiers were killed in a frontier attack by Honduras troops and planes. Honduras warned its civilian population against possible air attacks by Nicaragua. ’ President Luis Somoza announced the casualty toll Wednesday night a few hours after he was sworn in as chief of state. He went into Immediate conference with his brother, Gen. Anastasio Somcza, and other officials.
