School Speech Class Has Dinner Meeting Private Dinner Is School Year Climax The speech class of Decatur high school had a private dinner Tuesday evening at the Decatur Youth and Community Center. This was the culmination of the outside activities of that class, which is instructed by Deane T. Dorwin. The dinner Tuesday evening was for the purpose of giving students practice in eating in a more formal atmosphere. Speeches were given in class on etiquette by the etiquette committee. These people were Ellen Welch, Tony Kelly, and Ed Bean. Arranging for the dinner itself and also in charge of decorations were Marilyn Jefferies. Mary Lou Gaunt, Donna Small, and Stanley Alger. Before the dinner, shrimp cocktails and other appetizers were served buffet style. Fried chicken, baked potatoes, and green beans were served for the main course. Dessert consisted of cookies and ice cream. Following the dessert, Dorwin gave a short speech of appreciation for the work of the committees. Various members of the class and the class itself have participated in many extra-curricular events throughout the school year. Members of the class took part in the Legion oratorical contest and the Rotary speech contest. Speech students also helped in the Easter seal campaign as well as two Junior Town meetings. Members of the speech class who were present at the dinner were Ellen Welch, Donna Small, Chalrtifer Reinking, Sue Petrie, Sharon . Michaud, Tony Kelly, Twanette Magley, Jerry Kaehr, Marilyn Jefferies, Mary Lou Gaunt, John Dorwin, Sara Brunnegraff, Ed Bean, Gene Baxter, Stanley Alger, Dewayne Agler. and Dorwin. Barbara Suttles was unable to attend. Presbyterians Will Mark Family Week Special Services Planned On Sunday Sunday, the Presbyterian .church will have a special family worship service at 9 a. m. to open the national family week observance. Families will meet in the sanctuary to worship God in thanksgiving for families — both their own and the world wide family of Christians. This service will include a special anthem by the Westminster choir under the direction of Mrs. J. Clark Mayclin. Families will sit together in the pews and enjoy the privilege of communing with God in corporate worship. Sunday school classes will begin at 9:30 a. m. , During the 10:30 worship service, special emphasis will be made on families as the sermon is entitled “Today’s Children.” At 6 p. m. the Westminster fellowship group will have a parent youth forum. Miss Dianne Linn will be the director for the evening. Mrs. Richard Schauss will lead the forum. Miss Betsy Burk, president, will be in charge of devotions. Parents will accompany their youth and take part in the forum. These national family week activities will close with special Mother day emphasis during the Sunday school hour and the 10:30 worship hour.

Arrested On Charge Os Leaving Scene Jack McDonald of 333 North 13th street was arraigned in city court Tuesday afternoon on a charge of leaving the scene of an accident. An affidavit was filed against him earlier .in'the day, charging him with causing damage to the Lawrence Springer property on Decatur route three Monday night. Witnesses alleged that he ran two other cars off the road before the car went out of control and swerved onto the Springer lawn, damaging shrubbery, lawn and fencing. No plea was entered in Tuesday’s hearing. Arraignment was continued to 'May 20 on motion of McDonald's attorney. Mrs. John H. Gentis Is Taken By Death Mrs. John H. Gentis, 79, of Fort Wayne, died Tuesday at the home of her son, Don R. Gentis, on the Winchester road near Fort Wayne. Also surviving are a sister, Mrs. Ella West. Bluffton, O , and two granddaughters. Funeral services will be held at 3 p. m. Thursday at the First Missionary church in Fort Wayne, the Rev. Cornelius Vlot officiating. ' Burial will be in the Decatur cemetery. Friends may call at the Klaehn funeral home until noon Thursday. Son Os Adams Central Teacher Is Burned Stephen Fruth, five-year-old son of Mr. and Mrs. John Fruth, suffered first and second degree burns on his abdomen and legs, and minor burns on his arms and neck, when his clothing became ignited from' a trash fire at his home in Bluffton. The boy was taken to the Clinic hospital at Bluffton.
