“EASTER FASHIONS” IS THEME OF GECODE PARTY “Easter Fashions'* . was the theme of the GeCode club Easter party, which was held recently at the Legion home. The dining tables were attractively decorated with jonguils, hyacinths, and tulips, alternating with shaded pastel candles, and each place was marked with small hat box favors. Mrs. Charles Stonestreet welcomed the group, and announced the program for the evening. After dinner, Mrs. Ferris Bower entertained the group with several piano selections, all in keeping with the program theme. The members then viewed "Easter Fashions in Hats,” narrated by Mrs. Betty McNerney, with musical by Mrs. Bower. Models participating in the display of hat styles for spring arid summer were Mrs. James K. Staley, Mrs. Jack August, Mrs. Merle Foor. Mrs. Kenneth Gaunt, Mrs. Ned Meyers and MiSs Dorothy Schnepf. The collection of hats was shown through the courtesy of the E. F. Gass store.

At' that time plans will be made for special activities during the month. A social hour will follow the devotions and business sessions, with games, contests and refreshments. Each family attending is asked to bring enough pop and doughnuts for themselves and any guest they will be bringing. Any young adults, married or single, between the ages of 18 and 35, are invited to attend. . MONTHLY GUILD MEETING HELD BY ZION E. A R. GROUP The Women's Guild of the Zion Evangelical United Brethren church held its monthly meeting Wednesday eve. in the church social rooms, following the midweek Lenten services. During the business session, it was reported that 23 members attended the regional guild meetting, which was held at the Salem church at Magley, April 2. Mrs. Joseph Hazelwood and Mrs. Leo Kirsch were named as delegates to the Heidelberg summer conference, July 9 to 12.. The annual mother - daughter banquet will occur at the next meeting of the guild. Following the meeting, refreshments were served by the hostesses. the Mesdames Lawrence Rash, Clarence Painter, Morris Pingry, Donald Poling, Joseph Rash, Susie .Reppart Wilbur Robinson, and Roland Poling. FOURTEEN LADIES ATTEND AREA MISSIONARY MEETING Fourteen ladies of the Decatur Missionary church attended an area meeting of the Women’s Mis-
sionary society at the Celina, 0., Grace Missionary church. Following group singing, Mrs. Klopfenstein, of the Berne Missionary church, read the scripture from the third chapter so Col. A guest at the meeting was Miss Dorothy 'Rothfuss, a missionary from Kapoa, Kauai, who spoke about the work in Hawaii and showed many Interesting slides of that island. ‘ w Miss Rothfuss offered the closing prayer, after which the ladies of the Celina church served refreshments. -* ' V, —— UNION CHAPEL LADIES AID HAS ALL DAY MEETING Members of the Union Chapel Ladies aid met recently in the church basement, for their regular monthly all day meeting. Mrs. Harvey Koos, the president, conducted the business session. Election of officers was conducted with the following results: Mrs. Harvey Koos was re-elected president; Mrs. Glen Roughia was elected vice-president; Mrs. Omer Merriman was re-elected treasurer and Mrs. Martin Sprungr was reelected to be her assistant. Mrs. John Walters was re-elected secretary and she will be assisted by Mrs. Ammi Miller. The pianist and her assistant will be Mrs. Earl Chase and Mrs, Walters, and die chorister and her assistant will be Mrs. Ralph Rise and Mrs. C. O. Brown, respectively. Devotional chairman will be Mrs. Charles Burell, and Mrs. C. O. Brown will serve as the press reporter. Mrs. Millet* and Mrs. Roughia were elected to the card comrhittee. The closing prayer was offered by Mrs. Koos. MRS. MYRTLE GARWOOD IS HOSTESS TO U. B. SOCIETY • Mrs. Myrtle Garwood was recently hostess to the Women’s Missionary association of the Nuttman Avenue United Brethren church. The leader, Mrs. Clara Dague, opened the service with group singing rind prayer. Mrs. Esther Wood read scriptural passages from the 10th chapter of Luke, relating the account of the good Samaritan. Mrs. Dague then presented the lesson study on “Our Neighbors in Singapore,” and she included proverbs from numerous other countries. Installation services for the new officers was conducted, with Mrs. Iris Harkless in charge. The president, Mrs. Vesta Parker, reviewed the Auglaize branch program which will be held this month at Van Wert, O. The business session included plans for an Easter bake and variety sale to be held at the building formerly operated by Gerber’s market, April 20. One new member was received into the society, and upon dismissal, the hostess, assisted by Mrs. Esther Wood, served refreshments. _ , PUBLIC INSTALLATION FOR EASTERN STAR OFFICERS - Mrs. Raymond Eichenauer was recently installed as worthy matron of Decatur chapter number 127, of the Order of Eastern Star. The insailing officers were Mrs. Francis Ellsworth, installing matron, Mrs. Gene Hike, marsal, and Mrs. Elmo Stucky, chaplain. After taking her obligation at the altar, Mrs. Eichenauer was presented a bouquet of yellow roses and escorted to the east by her sons Max, David and Roger through an aisle formed by her new officers for the ensuing term. Her husband, Raymond Eichenauer, was installed as worthy patron. He was also escorted to the east by his sons, through an aisle formed by his fellow members of the Masonic lodge. Other officers installed included Mrs. Clarence Snyder, associate matron; Frank Behnke, associate patron; Mrs. Howard Eley, secretary; Mrs. Frank Bohnke, treasurer; Mrs. Ray Collins, conductress;. , and Mrs. Chalmer Barkley, associate conductress. The members of the Zion Lutheran Sunday school basketball team will be the guests of the Zion Adult club at. a basket dinner, which will be served at 5:30, o'clock Sunday, at the parish hall. Miss Chafmaine Des Jean, who is associated with American Airlines, arrived home from Los Angeles Wednesday to spend a few days visiting with her mother, Mrs. Florence Des Jean, and other relatives. Mrs. Des Jean will accompany her daughter back to Los Angeles, where she will spend a two-week vacation. O. W. Brown, of route 4, will leave Monday for San Diego, to visit his son, who is confined to the U. S. Naval hospital there with an arm injury. Airman Ray O. Brown, a former student at Decatur Catholic high school, is serving his second enlistment in the U. S. Navy Air Force. z Girl Scout News - Brownie troop 25 met after school Tuesday at the Northwest elementary school. We held election of officers, with the following results: president, Linda Kiess; secretary, Nancy Jo Brunner, and scribe. Ruth Johnson. We made plans to have girls in complete charge of the meeting next week. We closed with the Brownie arch. Scribe: 'Ruth Johnson Troop 28 met with Mrs. Heller Thursday after school. We opened with the Brownie promise, then we said the pledge. We made our Easter baskets. We elected new officers; president, Janelle Heller; secretary and treasurer, Janet Ginter, and scribe, Cassie Reynolds. Lenten Service At Methodist Church Closing Service Os Series Here Sunday flj" ■ ■ - t E The closing service of the annual Sunday evening Lenten services at the First Methodisth church will be held Sunday, at 7:30 p.m. The speaker will be Dr. A. Dudley Ward, executive secretary of the board of social and economic relations of the Methodist church. Dr. Ward has served as pastor of the Methodist church and as director of economic studies for the national council of churches. He was born in Canada, is a chartered accountant, and worked in the business world until 1945, when he entered the missionary. He studied at the University of Delawre and Union Theological Seminary. He has a bachelor’s degree in philosophy, a master’s degree in industrial sociology, and a bachelor’s degree in divinity. In recent years he has served as pastor of the Merrick Methodist church, Merrick, New York, and was director of economic studies for the national council of churches. Dr. Ward now serves as executivbe secretary of the new board of social and economic relations of the Methodist church. This board was authorized in 1952 to promote program and study in the economic life, race relations, and social and economic welfare. He is the author of ‘‘The American Econofny — Attitudes and Opinions,” and “Goals of Economic Life" in Harper’s magazine.

The attorney, Herbert Thatcher, indicated that English had been accused by the Teamsters executive board of being a “stool pigeon” as a result of the reports published Wednesday. Thatcher emphasized that English had volunteered no information to the committee, which has been investigating the finances of Teamster President Dave Beck and alleged links between his union and the underworld. The committee charges Beck took $322,000 of Teamster cash for his own use.
