Pre-Easter Services Al Christian Church Services To Begin Here Palm Sunday The Rev. Lonnie H. Hass will be the guest speaker during the preEaster services at the First Christian church, beginning Palm Sunday and closing Easter Sunday evening. Rev. Hass is director of the town and country church department of the Indiana Christian missionary association, the state missionary organization of the Christian churches of Indiana. He is a native of East Tennessee, where the Blue Ridge fountains join the Great Smokies. He attended public schools in his state, as his family followed the timber contracting and lumbering business. SPEECH THERAPY STUDENT— Mrs. Mar--Baret Harris Hakes, standing left, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Clyde [arris. 316 N. 3rd St., Decatur, is a graduate student in speech and hearing therapy at Indiana University. Here she works with another therapist, Sylvia Rutff, seated right, of Michigan City, aiding three children in association of pictures and sounds of words.
A desire to help children and adults with speech, voice and hearing problems has prompted Mrs. Margaret Harris Hakes, Indiana University graduate student, to work in speech and hearing therapy. Mrs. Hakes is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Clyde Harris, of 316 North Third street. A graduate of Decatur high school, she was graduated from I. U. in 1955, majoring in elementary education. Last year she taught Washington township school in Allen county. Always interested in speech problems, she was one of the instructors who first helped with the organization of the speech clinics conducted in Adams county during the summer months, and sponsored by the county society for crippled children and adults. She, Miss Carol Kalver, who will graduate from I. ties. Plans are presently underway for the 1957 clinics, which will again be conducted both in Decatur and at Berne. These correctional classroom sessions are sponsored solely by funds acquired through the Easter Seal drive, which is now in progress. Mrs. Hakes is now qualified to work as a speech correctionist and hearing therapist in public schools, clinics, hospitals, or even in private practice. It is hoped that she will be able to participate in the local clinic again this summer. Married to Richard Hakes, also of Decatur, who is studying nursing education and administration, Mrs. Hakes spends 15 hours a week at the Indiana University speech clinic. tfSip If you have something to sell or rooms for rent, try a Democrat Want Ad — they bring results.
