Ralph Schnepp. 72 3t-x Men's Clothes Are Described As Drab Custom Tailor Says Men A Drab Lot CHICAGO (UP) — Custom tailor Lawrence Pucci Jr. says men are a drab lot, and their clothing is overdue for some radical changes. In this jet propelled age, he said, men’s clothing reflects a hidebound adherence to the era of the Model T. Pucci, newly elected president of the Custom Tailors and Designers Association of America, said it’s high time we took a critical look at such foibles as lapels, pants cuffs and maybe even pockets. The pocket watch has all but disappeared in our culture, he said, but the pocket in which it was worn lingers on. “It would be ridiculous today to see a man dressed in a Prince Albert emerge from his suburban ranch house, climb into a helicopter and take off for the office,” Pucci said. ‘lvy Look’ Makes Him Itch “Yet within a few years our present mode of dress will be as ludicrous. dividuality in today’s dress. From cradle to grave, he said, the American male wears a uniform. “When they’re infants they’re presented with a layette and even their mothers couldn't tell them apart by the cut of their cradle jackets,” he said. “In childhood they’re handed the ill-fitting hand-me-downs of an older brother or the latest in a cowboy outfit. •» “In school they conform to the campus fashion dictates. In the armed forces they have no individuality at all. “And when they return to civilian life they don another uniform—a civilian straitjacket. It comes in blue, brown or grey, and it's mass produced to fit the long, the short and the tall.’* UN SERETARY , rrotn <~>n«> Suez Canal case to the International Court at the Hague rather than see Israel try to send a test ship through the canal.
