CHURCH SERVICE WILL HONOR LOCAL COUPLE The Rev. Burton Lange, pastor of the Calvary Evangelical United Brethren church, will be in charge of the worship service of his church Sunday, at which time there will be a special short service in honor of the golden wedding anniversary of Mr. and Mrs. Otis E. Shifferly, who are members of that congregation. After the church service, the couple will be guest; at a family dinner, and the custom of open house will be observed at their home in St. Mary’s township, from 2 until 4 o'clock in the afternoon. Their marriage was solemnized March 28, 1907. WREN SENIORS WILL PRESENT PLAY FRIDAY The senior class of Wren high school will present a play, “Good Gracious, Grandma!”, at 8 pm. Friday in the high school auditorium. Included in the cast are Ronnie Lautzenheiser, Kenneth Smith, Lola Beard, Barbara Dudgeon, Mary Hurless Ronnie Hakes; Elaine Smith, Jack Myers, and Doyle Garwood. The play is being directed by Joe Drennan, English and speech teacher in the high school. Mks. paul McCullough is HOSTESS TO CHURCH SOCIETY Mrs. Paul McCullough was recently hostess for a meeting of the Pleasant Mills Baptist Missionary society, which was attended by nine members. In the absence of the president, Mrs. McCullough, who is the vicepresident, opened the meeting by reading the first chapter of Joshua, after which she repeated the Lord’s prayer. Secretary Miss Sally McCullough gave the report of the last meeting and the treasurer’s report. Mrs. Ralph Longenberger gave the report of the love gift offering, and announced that the love gift boxes will be opened at the meeting next month. Plans were made f6r the Baptist Missionary association meeting which will be held at Bluffton, April 3. A nominating committee was appointed, consisting of Mrs. Longenberger. Mrs. Harry Ray and Mrs. Myrtle Daniels. Mrs. Ben McCullough gave the lesson on “I Have Seen the Lord,” and “The Bible and the American Eible Society.” The meeting was closed with the

circle of hands and the repeating of the Mizpah, benediction. Mrs. McCullough was assisted during the meeting by the Misses Susan and *Ruth Ann McCullough. The next meeting wlil be held at the home of Mrs. Ben McCullough. MR. AND MRS- EARL CHASE ARE FETED WITH RECEPTION At the close of the regular church services of the Union Chapel Evangelical United Brethren church, the Work and Win class I of that church feted Mr. and Mrt. Earl Chase with a reception, in honor of the observance of their 25th wedding anniversary. Mrs. Nile Wiliamson, a member of the class of which Chase is the instructor, presented both Mr. and Mrs. Chase with corsages of red roses, after which John Walters sang “I Love You Truly.” Members of the congregation were invited to attend the social hour in the church basement, where decorations were in keeping with the occasion. The serving table was centered with a fourtiered decorated cake, prepared by Mrs. Annie Andrews and Mrs. Myron Frank. The class served cake and coffee to 106 guests, and presented the Chases with a cedar tree, to which friends had fastened silver. Our Lady of_ Victory discussion group will meet at 7:30 o’clock Thursday evening at the home of Mrs. Lawrence Gase. The Friendship circle of the Decatur Missionary church will meet in the church parsonage, Friday evening at 7:30 o’clock. Mrs. Harlan Jones will be hostess for an all day meeting of the Pleasant Mills Methodist W.S.C.S., Friday. The study book entitled “Paul's Letters,” will be continued at this meeting. Formal initiation of the Women of the Moose will be conducted at the Moose home, Thursday evening, with the officers meeting at 7:30 and the lodge at 8. The Fort Wayne lodge will be on hand to conduct the initiatory rites. All local members are urged to attend this meeting. The Bethany Circle of the Zion Evangelical and Reformed church will meet in the church parlors, , immediately following the midweek Lenten sendees of the church Wednesday evening., Mrs. Julius Schultz wil be hostess to the St. Ambrose study club, Thursday evening at 7:30 o’clock. 1. ■ St. Ann study club will meet with Mrs. Addie Gass, at 219 Jackson street, Thursday evening at 7:30 o'clock. A “rush" party of the Xi Alpha lota exemplar and Epsilon Sigma chapters of Beta Sigma Phi, will be held at the Elks home, Wednesday evening at 8 o’clock. JOHNSON, residents of Root township for almost fifty years, will celebrate their 60th wedding anniversary Sunday, March 31, with a family dinner to be held at the Decatur Youth and Community Center. The couple was married March 31, 1897. Tfie Johnsons, who are 83 and 80 years of age, respectively, have five children, all living. They are Albert of Decatur; Lawrence of Findlay, O.; Robert of route 3, Decatur; Richard of Ottawa, O.; and Eleanor of Bryan, O. Also, they have eight grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. Mr. Johnson is a retired farmer and former janitor of Monmouth high school, where he was employed, for several years. He has two sisters, Mrs. Elizabeth Ruckman and Mrs. Rose Weldy, both residents of Decatur. His wife, the former Edith Kitson, has two brothers, Frank Kitson and Charles Kitson, of Decatur, and one sister, Mrs. Mamie Cornthwaite of Springfield, 111. "Old Time Skate” club was held Saturday evening at the Happy Hours roller rink. Thirty persons were present for the meeting of the club, which is comprised of persons who have* skated for a period dating back at least 15 years. Further plans were made for the next skating party, which will be held at the same place, April 27. The Monmouth parent - teachers association is sponsoring a bake sale at the Western Auto store, Saturday, beginning at 9 a m. Mrs. John M. Doan will entertain the members of the Dorcas circle of the First Methodist church, Thursday afternoon at 2 o’clock. - - - - * Girl Scout Jews Girl Scout troop 18 took a nature hike Friday after a short 15-mirw ute business meeting at Mrs. Eichenauer’s house. Each girl was told to look for plants and animals with the same first letters as in their own names. We also decided to go to Fort Wayne to see the Lincoln tower, with Mrs. Railing's troop, April 18. • Scribe: Candy Johnson Brownie , troop 10 met Monday after school. The meeting was opened by saying the Brownie promise. Roll was called and answered by each one telling a good deed she had done since the last meeting. Dues were paid. As a geust we had Mrs. Singleton, who gave us a lesson bn first aid. We then finished filling our first aid kits. The remainder of the meeting was spent in working on our books. Bronwie troop 27 met at the Lincoln school Monday night. They opened with the Brownie promise and sang “Make New Friends.” We had roll call and collection of dues. We also elected new officers. They are president, Marsha Sheets; secretary, Julia Meeks; and scribe, Mary Lou Hooper. Then we made favors for Easter. Nina Walther brought the treat. The building from which Astor directed his business is preserved as a historic site.

Judges Named For Limberlost Party Geneva Lions Club Plans Annual Party Two judges hpve been named'to date for selecting the “Girl of the Limberlost, 1957”, at the Geneva Lions club annual Limberlost land party Friday night, April 12. Appointed as judges are Chester Hite, Huntington businessman and district governor of Lions International, district 25-B, and Gerald T. Quindry, Rochester insurance man and official of the Rochester Lions club. Other judges, all from outside the Limberlost area, will be announced later. Fourteen schools in Adams, Jay and Wells counties have been invited to sponsor contestants, for the “Girl of the Limberlost” title. Schools giveh invitations are Decatur, Adams Central, Pleasant Mills, Monmouth, Berne, Geneva, Hartford Center, Bryant, Poling, Pennville, Portland, Bluffton, Petroleum and Chester Center. Each school sponsoring a contestant will receive a copy of Gene Stratton Porter’s famous book, “Song of the Cardinal,” autographed by a famous Hoosier. The Limberlost land party will open April 12 with a fish supper, for which tickets are now on sale by members of the Geneva Lions ,

Mr. and Mrs. Lysle Crowe, Fort Wayne, were Sunday visitors at the home of the Revy and Mrs Gerig. Dr. and Mrs. George R. Bierly, Jr., and Gregory, Ranee and Cecilia, and Mrs. Bierly's mother, Mrs. Philamena Polio, of Louisville, Ky., spent the week-end visiting with Dr. Bierly’s parents, Mr. and Mrs. G. Remy Bierly. Visitors at the home of Hubert Sprunger of Winter Haven, Fla., recently were B. A. Irelan and Mrs. W. L. Sipe, of Decatur. Word has been received from Benson, Ariz.,' that Mrs. George Roop recently underwent surgery. Mrs. Roop is reported to be getting along fine.
