Creamed Comments on the Sunday school lessin. the last judgment. Matt. 25: 31-46, for Sunday, March 31st. Last week’s lesson dealt with false men and false systems. Today lesson contrat the warm-hearted with the cold hearted. God sses men in two classes, those with moral principle and those without it The purpose of this lesson is to show that God judges us on the basis of our self-forgetful service to others. and the spirit in which we do deeds of mercy. Vs. 31-33. “When the Son of Man shall come in his glory, and all the holy angels with him, then shall he sit upon the throne of his glory: .... And before him shall be gathered all nations: and he shall separate them one from another, as a shepherd divideth his sheep from the goats: .... And he shall set the sheep on his right hand, but the goats on the left. “In his first advent Christ came as the world’s Saviour; in his second advent he will come as a king and judge. He will judge. He will judge all men, regardless of their race, nationality, economic position, strictly on the basis of their righteousness. Syrian goats are usually black; Syrian sheep white. Sheep suggest affection, gentleness, patience, usefulness; Goats symobilze combativeness, uncleanness, rebellion. Hie right hand denotes the place of favor, the left hand that rejection. Vs. 34-36. “Then shall the King say unto them on his right hand, Come, ye blessed of my Father, inherit the kingdom prepared for you from the foundation of the world: . . . For I was an hungred, and ye gave me meat: I was thirsty, and ye gave me drink: I was a stranger, and ye took me in: . . . Naked, and ye clothed me: 1 was a stranger, and ye took me in: . . . Naked, and ye clothed me: I was sick, and ye visited me: I was in prison, and ye came unto me. “Divine rewards are not earned or deserved but inherited by those who have a right relationship with God. Works of mercy are the evidences in their favor that the faith and spirit of Christ have dwelt in their hearts. We are not admitted into heaven because of what we do, but because of what we are; but Christ makes it plain that what we do and how we do it prove what we are. Vs. 40, 41. ’’And he cometh unto the disciples and findeth them asleep, and saith unto Peter. What, could ye not watch with me one hour? . . . Watch and pray, that ye enter not into temptation: the spirit indeed is willing, but the flesh is weak." While Jesus needed desperately the comfort of his friends, he realized their physical frailties. They slept against their will to watch with Jesus as he had asked them to do. The temptation to forsake and deny Christ might have been overcome had they listened to his counsel, "Watch and Pray.” V. 42. “He went away again the second time, and prayed, saying, O my Father, it this cup may not pass away from me, except I drink it, thy will be done." The human in Jesus continues to press for diversion from the impending suffering. but he showed complete faith in God's plan for him.* Vs. 43-46 “And he came and found them asleep again: for their eyes were heavy. . . And he left them, and went away again, and prayed the third time, saying the words. . . Then ometh he to his disciples, and saith unto them, Sleep on now, apd take your rest; rbf hold,'the hour is at hand, and (the Son of Man is betrayed into the hands of sinners. . . Rise, let us be going: behold, he is at hand

that doth betray me.” After his third petition, he yielded to God’s will, and was fortfied to meet what was ahead. The disciples had been sleeping while Christ was praying and were not fortified to meet what was ahead. The hour of betrayal .was at hand, but having been strengthened by the Father, he could face all that awaited him without wavering. Book ftovlow The making of modern mind, by Carmichael, The Elsevier Press, Houston, Texas, examines the mind from a biological and psychological point of view and covers some aspects of the political, economic and social theories of today. The author regards the scientific study of the nature and growth of the mind as basic and fundamental as any subject of human investigation.
