I Union Chapel Evangelical United Brethren church. The Rev. L. T. Norris will officiate for the doublering ceremony. Mntron-of-honor will be Mrs. Robert E. Drew, sister-in-laifr of the bride-elect, of Muncie. Bridesmaids will be the Misses Yvonne Miterko, of Indianapolis, and Juanita Bevelhimer of Anderson. Little Barbara Sue Gilliom, niece of the bride-elect will be flower girl. Serving as best man will be Roger Schnepf, of Hudson, Mich., and Eests will be seated by Carl Beeh- -, of Dayton, Q., and Robert Boknecht, of Lake Zurich, 111. Master Eric Heller, nephew of the bride-groom-elect, will be ring bearer. A reception will follow the ceremony, in the basement of the church. Guests will be served by Mrs. Rolland Gilliom, Mrs. Jack Heller, Mrs. Joe Gahimer, Miss Marilyn Jaberg, Miss Nancy Drew, Miss Phyllis Richardson, and Miss Geraldine Keim. The bride-elect has been the guest of honor at a crystal shower, given by Mrs. Gilliom, and Mrs. Robert Drew, and also at a miscellaneous shower, given by Miss Bevelhimer, Miss Keim, and Miss Miterko, at Indianapolis. Mr. and Mrs. Thurman I. Drew, parents of the bride-elect, will be host and hostess for the rehearsal dinner, which will be held at the Youth and Community center, the Friday evening before the wedding. PRESBYTERIAN CIRCLES MEET THURSDAY EVENING The Martha and Mary circles of the First Presbyterian church met Thursday evening. Mrs. Huber DeVoss was hostess to the Mary circle meeting, which was attended by 14 members. Mrs. William Schrock was the assisting hostess. Devotions were given by Miss Frances Dugan, and Mrs. Ed Engeler gave the lesson on the “Work of the Presbyterian Women’s Organization.” Mrs. Gene Rydell and Mrs. Burt Townsend were guests at this meeting. Members of the Martha circle met at the home of Mrs. Roscoe Glendening, with Mrs. Charles Langston as assisting hostess. Following the reading of a poem, devotions centering around the theme, "The Kingdom of God,” were presented by Mrs. Bert Haley. “What is Presbyterian Women’s Organization?” was the title of the lesson given by Mrs. Ray Walther. Mrs. Lewis Smith, chairman, conducted the business session.

ROE, of route 2, have announced the engagement and forthcoming marriage of their only daughter, Connie Joan to Bernard Lynn Lehman, son of Mr. and Mrs. Marvin Lehman, of Berne. The couple will exchange vows June 9, in the Mennonite church at Berne. The Rev. Carl Williams, of Monroe, grandfather of the bride-elect, will perform the ceremony. Miss Roe is.a senior at Adams Central high school, and her fiance was graduated from Berne-French high school. He is employed by the Berne Furniture company. ’’ . ti i

OTTO LONGENBERGER IS HOSTESS FOR MEETING Mrs. Otto Longenberger was recently hostess for a meeting of the Monroe Better Homes Demonstration club. Mrs. Harry Crownover led as the group repeated the club creed, after which the history of the song of the month, “Dreaming," was presented by Mrs. Glen Stucky, who then led in the singing of it. Bible scripture from the sixteenth chapter of John was read by Mrs. Martin Steiner. Mrs. Longenberger then presented a few thoughts on the topic “What Have We Done Today?” The devotional period ended with prayer, offered by Mrs. Willis Gierhart. The citizenship lesson concerning assessing property, was given by the hostess, after which the lesson on “Wardrobe Planning” was continued from last month’s meet- ' ing, by Mrs. Richard Everett. A ■ style show was presented by Mrs. Glen Stucky and Mrs. Gierhart, pointing out the dos and don’ts on buying new clothes. Mrs. Claude Laisure modeled clothing styles from the year 1927. Roll call was answered by naming a favorite pastime, after which the business meeting was conducted by the 'president, Mrs. Crownover. The group was dismissed with the repeating of the Lord's prayer. The hostess, assisted by Mrs. Rose Hocker and Mrs. Raymond Crist, served refreshments to 26 members and. two guests, Mrs. Harold Minnich and Miss Gloria Crownover. HISTORICAL CLUB MEETS WITH MRS. MARY AHR Members of the Historical club attended a recent meeting of that organization, held at the" home of Mrs. Lloyd Ahr, with'Mrs. Maty Ahr as hostess.

LUTHERAN SOCIETY HAS DESSERT LUNCHEON A dessert luncheon • meeting of. the Zion Lutheran Missionary society was held at the parish hall, Wednesday afternoon. The hostesses, ' Mrs. Chester Kleinknight, Mrs. Norman Kruse, and Mrs. Richard Mailahd, served dessert to the 25 members in attendance, after* which the film “Midwest Holiday” was shown to the group. The first grade pupils of the parish were also present to view the film. It was voted to donate $lO to the Red Cross drive. Mrs. Vilas Wittwer had the “lucky” shamrock, and'received a potted plant. “GUEST DAY” IS HELD BY METHODIST SOCIETY “Guest day” was observed at the Thursday afternoon meeting of the Methodist Women’s Society of Christian Service, which was held in the church chapel. The Monroe and Salem Women’s societies were guests of the local society, as was Dr. Jesse W. Fox, who is chaplain of the Parkview Memorial hospital in Fort Wayne. Dr. Fox addressed the group concerning the subject of mental health, after which he showed pictures of the various rooms and activities of .the Fort Wayne hospital. Miss Bernice Nelson was in charge of the devotional perux}. At the close of the meeting refershments tvere served by the committee, which included Mrs. Adrian Baker and Mrs. Leonard Soliday, .co-chairmen, and the Mesdames Ralph Smith, John Nelson, N. A. Bixler, R. C. Myers, Francis Howell, William Brown, Harold Owens, and J. Ward Calland.

More than 100 ushers from Protestant churches in northeastern Indiana and northwestern Ohio are enrolled in the ushers’ school now being conducted at the First Mennonite church in Berne. The first class was held last night. Leslie B. Lehman, vice-presi-dent of the First Bank of Berne, was elected president of the Berne Rotary club Monday evening. Noah Steury, founder and manager of Decatur Industries, Inc., spoke to the Berne Lions club Tuesday night. The Berne fire department answered a call north of that city Thursday to put out an extensive grass fire. Mr. and Mrs. Lorenz Erxleben, of route 2, have announced the adoption of a daughter, Janice Mae. The infant was born December 20, 1956. Mrs. Dick Arnold will be hostess at a meeting of the Eta Tau Sigma sorority, Tuesday evening at 8 o’clock, when it meets at the Preble Restaurant. The Pleasant Mills Methodist Women’s Society of Christian Service will meet at the church. Wednesday evening at 7:30 o'clock. AH members are urged to attend.
Art Exhibit, Music Program On Tonight William Hernandez Is Guest Soloist

William Hernandez, principal clarinetist for the Fort Wayne philharmonic orchestra, will be featured tonight in a music program at the Decatur high school gym. Hernandez wiH be accompanied by Mrs. Jean Bower, of the Decatur Music House. The Decatur high school band will demonstrate how a fugue is written, and then play ‘‘Three Blind Mice” several different ways. Jack Barkett and John Sheets of the art department will demonstrate with pictures what the mice are,doing. Every section of the band will tag featured In this number. r The band will also do ‘‘How Much is That Doggie in the Window?” in four different arrangements. They will play it as it would be done by John Phillip Sousa, Franz Joseph Hyden, a band, and a jazz band. The high school choir will sing two popular calypso numbers, followed by a chorus and band combination "on Beethoven’s ninth symphony. Following the program there will be an art exhibit, with an oil painting done by Harry Brown, art instructor at the Decatur Youth and Community Center, to be given away as a door prize. There will be no charge for the program, but a collection to help finance the band, art class, and choir treasuries wiU be taken. Judge Parrish In - Jay Circuit Court Judge Myles F. Parrish, Adams circuit court, has spent three days in Jay circuit court this week on arraignments in an assult and battery case in that county. Judge Parrish will return to the Jay county court next week to preside at the jury trial of the case. • i Trucker Is Fined On Speeding Charge Carol D. Ricks, 35, of Dallas. Texas, was fined $1 and costs for speeding 55 miles an hour in a truck on Ur S. highway 27 three miles south of Decatur. He appeared at 8 o’clock Thursday evening before justice of the peace Floyd Hunter. Arrest was made by the state police. The local state police reported today that they had made their first issuance ol warnings under a new department regulation. Warnings may now be issued for nonflagrant moving violations. James Dean, appearing in ‘ Giant’’ playing at the Adams for four days starting tonight, has been nominated for the Oscar as the year’s best actor for his work in the picture. Rock Hudson also received an award nomination for his acting. “Giant” is a candidate for the year’s best picture; in fact, the production received a total of 10 nominations for excellence. In addition to Hudson and Dean, the cast enacting Edna Ferber’s story includes Elizabeth Taylor, Sal Mineo, Chill Wills, Jane Withers, Mercedes McCambridge, and Carroll Baker. ■ Day Os Recollection For Catholic Men A day of recollection for the men of the southeast district, diocesan council of Catholic men, will be held Sunday afternoon at Hessen Cassel.
