Young Mother Sent Home To Children Attempted To Break Into Grocery Store CINCINNATI W — A 17-year-old mother who was arrested for attempting to break into a food store because “I couldn’t stand to see my babies hungry,” was back with her children today. Authorities said the boy was killed when he fell from a tree and one end of a lasso caught on a tree limb. The other end was looped around his neck and he was strangled with his feet only a foot from the ground. Jobless Pay Claims Slightly Increased INDIANAPOLIS OT) — Indiana unemployment claims last week were six per cent above the week before and 17 per cent above a year ago. i The Indiana Employment Security Division said 52,395 claims were filed last week, including i 5,106 from newly unemployed persons. Scarlet Fever Cases Far Ahead Os 1956 No Diphtheria Is Reported In State INDIANAPOLIS (V) — Scarlet fever cases in Indiana this year were running far ahead of 1956 figures, but no cases of diphtheria ’ had been reported compared to 20 in a comparable period last year, the State Board of Health reported today. The board’s weekly morbidity report showed 127 new scarlet fever cases were reported last week. The number was less than the week before, but it brought the 1957 total to 739 through last Saturday. In a similar period fest year 475 cases were reported 1 . Trends were mixed in other contagious or “cold weather” diseases. A total of 1,575 cases of chickenpox were reported 'compared to last year’s 1,275, but bnly 446 cases of influenza compared . to 914 in 1956. Mumps and whoop- . ing cough were down. But both German and “three-day” measles showed an increase over IHK; Two new polio cases were reported and one resulted in Indiana's first polio death in 1957. The running total now stands at six which is equal to the 5-year median and three more than in a comparable period last year. Annual Bus Inspection March 15 Gail Grabill, county superintendent of schools, announced today that the annual inspection of school busses has been scheduled for March 15. The inspections will be conducted by state police at two sites, Geneva school for the southern part of the county and at the Decatur city parking lot for the northern part of the county. The busses will be checked for compliance with school bus specifications as set up by the Indiana school bus safety committee. Thefts Are Reported From Auto In Berne The theft of four wheel discs from an automobile and of two jackets taken from another car were reported earlier this week to Berne policy chief Karl Sprunger. Dr. Howard Luginbill stated that the wheel discs were taken from his car while it was parked beck of his office. The jackets were stolen from the Virgil Amstutz car while tnembers of the family attended a Youth for Christ meeting at the First Mennonite church. Adams Central High Principal On Radio Herman E.
