Settlage, pastor of the Evangelical United Brethren church in Salem, took charge of the chapel services Wednesday His taßc fit in with the literature discussion the junior class had that morning. After finishing the pest controling project Friday concerning the tickets for the Piston basket ball game, the group started selling vegetable and flower seeds. Parents, help these fellows out when they come to your door. -P.M.H.S.— A swarm of hungary males clustered outside the doors to the home economics room. It seems as though pleasant odors were penetrating the fellows’ noses. The reason for all of this was the fact that the freshman and sophomore girls were making candies, cook- > ies, etc. of their own choosing during classtime. Girls, the reports on your cooking were "good” so keep up your fine Work. —P. M. H. S.— Th* taaw eiaw is trying to decide upon she right play to give. Is Studying Holiday Change To Celebrate Four Holidays On Monday COLUMBUS, Ohio (UP)— The Ohio Legislature is considering a proposal to celebrate four major holidays on Monday. The bill, which has considerable support from business and industry, cleared its first hurdle in the Legislature Tuesday when it was recommended for passage by • Senate committee. Sen. Ross Pepple (R-Lima), sponsor of the bill, said he understands measures similar to the Ohio proposal are to be submitted in Congress this year and in the Michigan, Illinois, and Indiana legislatures. The proposed calendar change would require Memorial Day to be the last Monday in May. Independence Day would be the first Monday in July, Thanksgiving the third Monday in November. A President’s Day would come on the third Monday in February to observe the birthdays of Presidents Washington, Lincoln, Franklin D. Roosevelt and others. The bill sailed through the Senate committee with only the local Watch Washington Club and the Daughters of the American Revolution opposing it. They called it part of a “progressive plan of unAmericanism.’’ Main purpose of the proposed legislation would be to “revitalise'* three holidays and “make something important” out of Presidents Day, according to Pepple *1 expect a tough fight on this • - Kill •• * “A tot fit people thought it was a *aarewball proposal wfien they first Ward about it, but I’m firmly convinced it will pass in Ohio and set a precedent for the rest of the country.”
