JERRY BIRD HONORED ON STH BIRTHDAY Jerry Bird, five-year-old son of Mr. and Mrs. Dale Bird of route 1. was honored at a birthday party In his honor, Saturday at the home of his parents. Ice cream and cake was served to the following guests: Mr. and Mrs. Lehman Venis and Danny, Terry and Carol, of Osceola; Mr. and Mrs. John William Bird and John, Pat, Carol and Stewart, Mr. and Mrs. Alfred Dellinger and Mike and Gary,, and Mrs. Richard Gase and Steve, all of Decatur; Mrs. Hazel Dezenroth, of South Norwalk. Conn.; and Mrs. Eunice Bird, and Mr. and Mrs. Roy Venis of Decatur, Jerry’s grandparents. . . —«— LOCAL COUPLE CELEBRATES 4 STH WEDDING ANNIVERSARY Mr. and Mrs. Gottlieb Werling were honored Sunday, at a party given at their home in observance of their 40th wedding anniversary. The couple was married February H, 1917. Mr. and Mrs. Werling received many useful gifts, appropriate for the occasion. Hostesses include Mrs. Stuart Brightwell, Mrs. Roy Johnson, and Mrs. Warren Lehman. , MRS. T. C. SMITH IS HOSTESS TO PARLEY Mrs. T. C. Smith entertained the members of the Past Presidents Parley of the American Legion auxiliary, Monday evening. Sixteen members, and one guest attended the meeting. The president, Mrs. Frances Monahan, conducted the business portion of the meeting. Plans were completed for serving the annual banquet to the building association, February 20. During the social hour, cards were played, and prizes were won by Mrs. Elmer Darwachter, Mrs. Harold Tieman, and Mrs. Dee Fryback. Mrs. Smith and Mrs. Ed Bauer will attend the fourth district past presidents parley at Columbia City on Wednesday. A delicious luncheon was served by the hostess, at the close of the evening. Mrs. Monahan will be hostess to the parley for the March meeting, to be held at the Legion home. CHURCH OF GOD SOCIETY HAS RECENT MEETING The Church of God Missionary society met recently in the fellowship basement. The meeting was opened by repeating the missionary pledge, followed by prayer, offered by Veda Mitchel. Hazel Shaffer had charge of the worship service, using the theme “My Church and Worship.” "Spirit Holy” was sung by the group, after which Hazel Shaffer offered prayer. A poem was read by Emma Frank. and the scripture, taken from the fourth chapter of Mark, was read by Edna Kirkpatrick. "What is Worship” was presented by the leader, and was followed by a vocal solo, "Just a Closer Walk With Thee” by Fayma Geyer. “My Church” was read by Veda Mitchel, and the worship service was closed with prayer by
Janice Agler. The study of Southeast Asia was continued during the program, which was under the leadership of Mary Hazelwood. Ruth Strickler gave an interesting story of the “Budist Monk.” Refreshments were served to 19 members, two visitors, and two children, by the hostesses, Mary Hammond and Fayma Geyer. Members of the local Welcome Wagon club will attend a potluck supper Monday evening, at 7 o'clock, at the 3 home of Mrs. John Hefner. 940 Walnut street. The Ladies auxiliary of the Knights of Columbus will sponsor a card party, Wednesday evening at 8 o’clock. All kinds of cards will be played, and cash prizes will be awarded to the winners. Sandwiches and free coffee will be served after the games. The Eagles auxiliary will meet tonight at 8 o'clock, at the Eagles hall. An important business meeting of the D.A.V. auxiliary is slated for Thursday evening at 7:30 o'clock. at the D.A.V. hall. All officers are urged to be present. Mrs. Joseph Kitson will be ho® tess to the members of the St. Jude study club, Thursday evening at 8 o'clock. • The Monmouth Parent and Family Life Education study«group will meet at the Monmouth school, Monday evening at 7:30 o’clock. Mrs. Robert Rice will be the guest speaker. The Pythian Sisters Needle club met Monday evening after temple, at file K. of P. home. Mrs. Ed Ahr conducted the business meeting, which was attended by members, pames were played and prizes were awarded to the winners. Mrs. Fred Striker won the door prize, and refreshments were served by Mrs.' Martin Worthman and Mrs. Alma Fruechte. The Women of the Moose will meet at the Moose home Thursday evening at 8 p.m. Officers will meet at 7:30, and all officers, chairmen and escorts are to attend. A Valentine party will follow, and all members are asked to bring a Valentine. The district Mosse meeting will be held at Bluffton, Friday evening. Mrs. Elmer Uhrich has been transferred frqm the local hospital, to the Parkview Memorial hospital, in Fort Wayne, where her room number is 416. Mrs. Dick Archbold, Coldwater, Mich, is visiting with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. A. D. Suttles. Miss Pauline Affolder has accepted a position in the office of Frank McConnell and Sons. Miss Eleanor Pumphrey, who has been ill for several weeks is reported* to be improving. Perry McGill, well-known local man, is able to walk about witl) aid of crutches now after sustaining an injury in a fall on the ice last week. Mr. and Mrs. Merritt Marbach of to Curry Court Metairie, La., are parents of a son, Born Sunday. Mr. and Mrs. Fred Marbach of route 5, are the paternal grandparents. At the Adams county memorial hospital: A five pound, eight ounce son was born Monday at 5:47 p.m., to Waldo and Aldine Meyer Conrad, of route 1. . Frederick A. and Mary Helen Gramelspacher Dellinger of 936 High street, are parents of a seven pound, seven ounce son, born Monday at 6:58 p.m. At 8:05 o’clock Monday evening, an eight pound, two ounce daughter was bom to Ivaii and Ida Sommer Hoosier of Geneva. Louis and Beverly White Stetler of Willshire, became parents of a daughter, Monday at 11:10 p.m. She weighed seven pounds, and four ounces. A son, weighing five pounds, and 13 ounces, was born today at 3:50 a.m., to Troy and Eleanor Sausotta Fennig of 1204 Mix avenue. Girl Scout News Brownie troop 26 met at the Lincoln school February 11, for a Valentine party. A lunch was served by the hostesses, Lana Hay, Jackie Clark, and Pamula Davidson. We played games and discussed the sale of Girl Scout cookies. Orders will be taken this week and turned in next Monday, February 18. We closed with the friendship circle. Edward Thomas Ray, 43-year-old sideshow performer, who police said writes with his feet was “footprinted” at police headquarters. ■
