Berne Is Edged Out By Ossian Bears- 53-51 Ossian won the battle of the Bear* and county champions Saturday night as the Well* county quintet edged out a 53-51 victory at the Ossian gym. The Wells county champions held an 11-10 lead at the first quarter, but the Adams county champs took over in the second period and held a 28-19 advantage at the half. Ossian went back on top at the third quarter, 38-37. With the score tied and four seconds to play, Kumfer hit his eighth field goal for the Ossian victory. Kumfer topper the scoring with 20 ppiats, 18 of them in the second half, while Van Meter tallied 19 for Ossian. Pete Schug led Berne with 18, followed by Lynn Lehman with 15 and Carl Liechty with 11. Berne will have a pair of home games this week, entertaining the BlUfftbn Tigers Tuesday night, and playing host to Montpelier Saturday afternoon in the feature of the annual homecoming celebration of the Berne high school. Spartans Snap Losing Streak Saturday Night The Pleasants Mills Spartans snapped a seven-game losing streak Saturday night by defeating Convoy-Union, 55-44, on the Pleasant Mills hardwaad. Convoy led at the first quarter, 12-10, and the teams were tied at the half, 18-18, but the Spartans took over In the third period for a , 35-29 advantage. Jerry Williamson led the Spartans with 18 points, and John Frey contributed 15.
