Hungarian Judges Resign In Protest Protest Summary Government Moves . VIENNA (UP)—The Communist Hungarian regime has moved swiftly to counter a nationwide passive revolt by judges against the summary court tactics under the police-state, reports reaching Vienna said today. Budapest Radio, meantime, announced the arrests of members of a "counter-revohitionary” band in the capital. . 1 The reports said the puppet Janos Kadar regime appointed president of the Budapest court, Oedoen Szakacs, as a tort of "chief justice” to scrutinize martial law sentences. Judges throughout the cmmtry were reported resigning in fntest against the practices inttodtMtid to deal with martial law and "counter - revolutionaras.” There were complaints in tmttrnment organs that in many Ases judges have acquitted offenders who should have been punished. The reports said Szakacs, as the first step in the counterattack, has ordered all state prosecutors to appeal against sentences which do not meet the requirements of Communist “justice." - The Hungarian Socialist Workers Party, as the Hungarian Communist Party is now known, boasted it has the power to crush counterrevolutionaires — the Kadar term for all persons who do not actively his regime. The most recent warning came from Karoly Kiss, member of the party’s Executive Committee. He told a party rally in southern Hungary "the party will defeat all enemies, even if they are writers." The reference to writers indicated Communist concern over their activities. The government recently banned the Assn, and the Journalists Assn., recognized as the brains behind the October-November uprisings. Former Ambassador J Dies unexpectedly
