He had no estimate of how much state revenue might come from a pari-mutuel law. Meanwhile, a move was afoot tc buy a tiny share in the Northern Indiana toll road on behalf or more than four million Hoosiers. Sponsors hoped to use SI,OOO in state funds for purchase of a toll road bond. It would not be for investment purposes but solely to permit the state as a bondholder to have access to “copies of audits and other fiscal or operating information.” Rep. S. Paul Clay (R-Indian-apolis) said he wil be one of the authors of a bill outlining the plan, which probably has the approval of Governor Handley in view of his frequent statements that toll road records should be open to audit and inspection by the state. Guy Mitchell No Longer Sings Blues Solid Bookings For Entertainer On TV NEW YORK (UP)—Gdy Mitchell almost dead broke a year ago, no longer is singing the blues. "I won’t kid you, last year at this time I had realty come on hard times,” said Mitchell. “Over a period of about a year, I had only one record you could call even a little hit, ‘99 Years’ And it just made me enough money to meet my obligations.” That was the picture until recently, continued Mitchell. “First, last fall, I decided to get married,” he said. “I had just $2,000 in the bank, which believe me, is cutting it pretty thin for an entertainer. Her name was else Sorensen and I had met her in Vancouver. , “WeR, Igot this booking at a hotel in Atlanta and they were wonderful to us. Gave us a suite with flowers and everything. “And then things really, started breaking when this fellow, Monte King, who works for Columbia down there, called a record to the attention of Mitch Miller and myself.” The record was Marty Robin's “Singing the Blues,” a number which was beginning to move fast in the country field. “We«cut ’Singing the Blues’ on a Sunday night,” recalled Mitchell. “And it really took off—you know, it’s sold two million copies now and it's still going pretty good. “It put me over the top. Since it's been released, I’ve been all over TV. "My bookings are really sold in this country and I’ve got two big shows coming up on British TV on Feb. 10 and 16. The last one they’re going to call ‘The Guy Mitchell Show’.” Crops Project School Conducted Wednesday Eighty Adams county farmers attended the crops project com-mittee-sponsored extension winter school on use of nitrogen fertilizer and uses of water, held Wednesday at the Farm Bureau Co-Op building Monroe, stated Leo N. New Instruction Booklet On Taxes Careful Reading 1$ Urged On Taxpayers The new and revised instruction booklet received by Indiana federal income taxpayers with their 1956 forms is the best and most pseful ever devised by the internal revenue service, district director Gary Campbell said in urging area taxpayers to read it carefully before and while they prepare their returns for last year. “After a preliminary statement of general aims and purposes, instructions in the new booklet follow the Form 1040 on a line by-line basis —for the first time in the history of Federal revenue collection. Taxpayers should find this a special boon,” he said.
“The instructions themselves have been made as simple as can be on a series of subjects to thousands if not millions of individual situations and circumstances.

When a taxpayer reads any given section of the form, with which he is concerned, he no longer has to hunt back and forth in the booklet for guidance. It’s in the same arrangement as the form and he has it ready at hand. “There will still be questions and problems. We’re prepared to help with answers on the phone — as we think most can be handled — or in visits to our office for more detailed explanations. “I think, incidentally, that the new type used this year te forms and booklet will meet with taxpayer approval, even if only because it’s easier on the eyes. Our new approach to this key phase of tax collecting is one more justification of our title — the internal revenue service.” LAUNCH*SEARCH (Continued fro-n Qngi at the~close of the committee session. Cannon complained after Humphrey’s appearance that the committee is “just as much at sea aj we were before we hard Secretary Humphrey. He didn’t point out where we could cut the budget one cent.”
