Testifies On Pact For Providing Gas Nipsco Official Gives Testimony WASHINGTON (UP)-Carl D. Rees, vice president of Northern Indiana Public Service Co., Hammond, says his firm has a contract to sell Inland Steel Co. 45 million cubic feet of natural gas a day if a new supply becomes available. Reesm ad e the statement Wednesday at a Federal Power Commission hearing on a proposal by Natural Gas Pipeline Company of America to build a new 76 million dollar pipeline. The new line would run 415 miles from Beatrice, Neb., to Joliet, 111. It would deliver an additional 485 million cubic feet of gas per day to the midwest according to its sponsors. Rees testified that Northern Indiana expected to buy an additional 100 million cubic feet of gas per day if the pipeline is approved. It now gets about 95 million cubic feet of gas daily from Natural Gas Pipeline and Texas-Illinois Pipeline. Rees said his firm had contracted to sell 45 million cubic feet daily to the Thland plant in East Chicago, Ind., if the proposed pipeline is built. Northern Indiana also hoped to sell 25 million cubic feet per day to the United States Steel Corp, at Gary, Ind. In an earlier case before the FPC, the Midwestern Gas Transmission Co. said it held a contract with U.S. Steel for 25 million cubic feet daily. It also proposed in that case, which has not been decided, to serve the Inland plant at East Chicago. Service to the two Indiana steel firms provided the chief point of controversy in both the Midwestern and the current pipeline case.
