Congressmen Object To Visit By Tito One Congressman In Threat To Resign WASHINGTON (UP) — Marshal Tito, strongman of Communist Yugoslavia, is still expected- to visit the United States this year despite congressional objections. But new outcries from several congressmen have complicated what already was a, delicate matter. •„• Secretary of State John Foster Dulles said some time ago that he thought a Tito eall on the United States would serve a useful purpose to build Tito up, even though he is a Communist, as a symbol of Independence from Russian control. The United States and Yugoslavia have been discussing the matter privately since. Rep. Alvin E. O'Konskl (R-Wis) said in an angry speech Wednesday that he would resign his House seat in protest if Tito accepts an invitation to visit the United Saes. Tio would be he first Communist official to get such an invitation. Rep. Clare E. Hoffman (R-Micht backed O’Konskl. He said if O’Konski resigned in protest, he should then run again for his old seat with the assurance of re-election. Hoffman said O’Konski’s constituents would send him back to Congress and “show the State Department what the people think” about Tito. Rep. Kenneth B. Keating (R-NY) also opposed any invitation to Tito. He accused the Yugoslav boss of using “blackmail” in efforts to get U.S. Military aid. * The State Department refused comment on their statements.
