SCHOOL REPORTER Along with the end of tt*e aemMtar and all of the basketball games, there is another event which usually occurs about this time of the year. Although it isn't a school event, many of the students of D.H.B. participate in it along with the students of the many other county schools. Yes, almost every night, if you were to go out to one of the ponds in Decatur and the surrounding area, you would find many teen-agers doing figure-eights and all of the other fancy things that ice skaters do. Os course, along with this skating you also find some miserable people. Those with cold ears and noses and black and blue marked where they “accidently” slipped and fen. Although there are quite a few limping and hobbling students around D. H. S. these days, ice skating is still a sport which can be enjoyed by many students and teachers alike — and most reports say that it is worth tiie extra pain it causes. —-D.H.S.—And one last word devoted to basketball. This Tuesday night, the Jackets defeated the Elmhurst Trojans at Decatur by a score at 72-48. Although the Trajans played a fine game, the X’a M at all periods, and the game was just a Suestion of the “slow starting” ackets beginning to move and overcoming the hard-fighting Trojans. Congratulations to the DJI.S. team. —D.H.S.— The D. H. S. second team also came through with a victory by a wide score by beating the Elmhurst second team by the score of 5433 k. . ; RlB team "games, the D. H. S. band, under the direction of Clint Reed, played some numbers for the cheering bloc to do yells with, and also a special rendition of the ever popular "Bugler's Holiday," followed by the "Star Spangle Banner.” The band has been doing a fine job this year, playing between games and we know that it is greatly appreciated by the D. H. S. students and fans. —D.H.S.— As this column is to be my last ■ column of the year, I would like to say thanks to everyone who has , helped me in the writing of the column. First, thanks to Gwen Hilyard for giving me help whenever it was needed and for being so patient with me when my col- I umn was a “little late.” Second, thanks to all of the students of the various classes who brought me news that could be used in the column. Third, thanks to the teachers for being so helpful in supply- ! *ing me whatever news I asked for. I And finally, fourth, thanks to Mr. Dorwin for the use of his typewriter as I rushed to meet those “Tuesday deadliness!!” I really enjoyed" dMhg This column and I hope that the items that I put in were sufficiently entertaining to interest the students of D. H. S. and their followers. Again thanks to everyone for all their help, and good-luck Sara for the rest of the year. —D.H.S.MONMetTTH HIGH SCHOOL By Grace Fuhrman

classmates. There has been quite a bustle of activity lately, as the basketball teams and cheering sections prepare for the county tourney. Also the band members are practicing hard for the music contests at Fort Wayne. Os course, the semester tests are under way and everyone is doing his best to make an “A”. —M.H.S.— MHS considers itself quite lucky for it has good teachers, a rapidly improving band, and a good athletic program. However, one thing has been lacking. It has become more and more evident that a school secretary has been needed. High school students have acted as secretaries during their tree periods, but this has robbed them of one study nail which many of these busy students needed badly. To remedy this situation, Mrs. Marlene Bittner has been hired as school secretary. Marlene is a 1956 graduate of Monmouth high and is well known to all of the students and teachers. MHS extends a welcome to you, Marlene. All the students hope you will enjoy your work here at “good ole” Monmouth high. —M.H.S.Good news from band department! The sample uniform, which was to be made for the uniform committee to check before the complete order of uniform was filled, arrived during Christmas vacation. The committee checked the uniform, pronounced it very Mttofoctory, and sent it back to the company. Now ,the band members have a wait of about four weeks before the complete order of uniforms arrives. Watch for an announcement telling when the band will make its first uniformed appearance. ...J Last Friday night the Eagles were defeated by Union Town- - ship of Huntington county by a score of 49 to 48. On Saturday evening the Monmouth boys met the Hartford Gorillas on Hartford’s home floor. The Gorillas won by a score of 61 to 38. The
