County Agent's Column 0 o County Agent’s Column A change in the farrowing seasons has caused a revision in the rules of the gold medal pork producers club, Richard Hollandbeck, Purdue University extension swine specialist, has reported. Hollandbeck said the executive committee of the Indiana livestock producers association, has voted to permit pigs farrowed in December — as well as January, February, March and April — to be entered in the gold medal project. Prior to the revision, pigs farrowed in December were not eligible to be entered in the project. Any commerical hog producer who has five or more sows or

gilts to farrow from December through April, can join the pork producers club. Hollandbeck defines a commercial hog producer as one who sella at least 85 percent of his market hogs for slaughter purposes. Participant must become members of the Indiana livestock breeders* association. Tho project is designed to encourage the efficient production and marketing om meat-type hogs. According to Hollandbeck, little time is required to keep records for the project. He feels that similar records would be kept by any efficient swine producer. Here’s all the information that’s needed: date and number of pigs farrowed in each littler, total number of pigs weaned, date of sales, number sold, stockyard or elevator weights of hogs marketed, number and weight of gilts
