But his statement that "we must do more” tied in with the r4port of plans to ask Congress to admit more refugees as quickly as possible after it reconvenes Jan. 3. ‘ The highly placed source said the administration feels that in the future the refugee program should be expanded to include not only additional Hungarians, but also Poles, Czechs and others who escape from Russian satellite nations. Such a proposal probably would take the form of a request for renewal of the three-year Refugee Relief Act which expires at midnight next Monday/ That law provided for the admission to this country of 209,000 refugees of many nationalities, and officials expect 185,000 to be admitted before it expires. The total would include 6,400 Hungarians cleared for entry in the past two months. The remainder of the 21,500 Hungarians are being admitted as "parolees’’ by Atty. Gen. Herbert Browned Jr. under a special provision of the McCarran-Walter Act, the basic immigration law. IKE (Continued from Page OW) three or four thousand dollars of the amount necessary to purchase the 35-acre tract. Mop-up committees- are at work now contacting prospective donors who have not been seen by the original committees. The price of the 35-acre tract and the dimensions are exartly the same as the Chamber of Commerce had under a temporary option a year ago and which expired before an interested industry was located. - , NEGRO (Cofcllnnetl )►« r-n» O.K Court Action Threatened The Tallahassee Negroes exerted their self-proclaimed right to sit where they pleased without interference Monday, when there were few white riders. The buses were idle for the holiday Tuesday. Council President C. K. Steefo said the Negroes again will "sii where we please, just as we did on Christmas Eve — nothing has changed.” Steele said that if the Negro population of 15,000 1% thwarted by police, it will resume a seven-month boycott which for a time last summer put the City Transit Lines, Inc., out of business. The council it also will seek court action if necessary to have the Montgomery decision declared as the law of the South and not a mere local decree. Montgomery Negroes ended a 12month citywide racial bus boycott and began riding buses on a nonsegregated basis last Friday. Thus far there has been only one incident—a Negro girl was reported slapped. If you have aometblng io sell oi rooms for .rent, try a Democist Want Ad. It brings results.
