Children who believe the older generation is getting into a rut haven't heard about the Fort Wayne juveniles who have admitted stealing the same car four times. —o— ■<>—— If our knowledge of history and religion is correct. President Eisenhower may have made a diplomatic error in insisting that Prime Minister Nehru of India pat the prize Black Angus bulls on his Gettysburg farm. We believe the cow is considered sacred to millions of citizens of his (Country and we wonder if Nehru’s reluctance to touch it might not have been in respect to the opinions of some of his people Who do not appreciate beef animals. It was noted by the 100 newspapermen and cameramen that the prime minister had no fear of the horses. U— o—o An interesting Thursday feature of this newspaper contains columns written by students of area schools, published each Thursday while classes are in session. The stories are informative and well written. They are the first introduction of our future citizens to the community at large. The editors in charge of collecting and writing the stories from each school are: Kay Archer, Pleasant Mills; Ellen Welch, Decatur high school; Marjorie Kohne, Decatur Catholic high school; Grace Fuhrman, Monmouth, and Barbara Fiechter, Adams Central. This week they were entertained at a news conference and dinner at the home of Miss Gwen Hilyard, editor in Charge of school activity stories for the Decatur Daily Democrat. It will make you young again to read these features and prove to you that if there is any change in the way our boys and girls act since we were kids, it’s all for the better. o o fairs of other nations is an inter-

esting but costly affair. Look at the Suez canal situation. Several years ago our state department decided upon an anti-colonial policy and talked England into withdrawing its troops from the Canal area. We also promised Egypt millions of dollars for improvements, including a costly dam. Then Russia upped the offer and gave Egypt arms (donated by a satellite country). An election came along and contributions to a public dam in another country became inconsistent with the administration's domestic policy. So the offer of money for the Egyptian dam was withdrawn. Egypt retaliated by nationalizing the canal and refusing to let ship% of Israel pass through. Without consulting us, Israel, England and France promptly invaded Egypt. Egypt blocked the canal.. The Arab countries threatened to nationalize our investments in oil in the Near East. The president vice-president and secretary of state, went on vacation during the height of the crisis and turned the affairs of state over to Herbert Hoover. Jr., an executive of oil companies with interests in the Arab countries. He forced England, France and Israel to withdraw. We now have promised to furnish oil to Europe, mostly at our cost, and back up the currency. We are supplying the largest share of U. N. costs in re-habilitating the canal. The new assistant secretary of state is a friend of England and France so the wheel may revolve again. In the meantime, there are rupjers wejjaxe.pwwUed to, furnish the money for the dam again. It’s been interesting. It’s provided the second best news story of the year. It has only cost two or three billion dollars to American citizens who have been informed they can not expect a tax cut next year. The free world has lost Syria. It’s no wonder President Eisenhower hasn’t been able to hold more than one press conference since his election. He must be as confused as we are.
