S. highway 27 just north of 1 Coppess Corner. The truck, loaded with motor blocks, was operated by Maynard Rex Newlin, 36, of Morgantown. The driver of the truck stated that he did not know exactly what happened. The truck went off the road on the left berm, either while passing another vehicle or when Newlin fell asleep. ' The berm was soft and Newlin 1 was unable to pull the truck back onto the highway. The truck jackknifed, causing me load to shift and be thrown out into a field. Newlin was not injuried. Damage totalled a-oout $9,000. deputy | sheriff Roger Singleton and state trooper Dan Kwasneski investigated. NIXON < Coni .. Pare on himself was expected to stay clear of the border to prevent por‘: —’ repercussions against Austria. ■an officials said they felt the 500-man security force as-I signed to escort, Nixon would provide enough protection against any ■ incidents if he wanted to see the 1 frozen frontier for himself. In ad- i dition to the escort, all gendarmes j and soldiers in the area were on the alert. - Nixon also planned to go today to Neustadt and Traikirchen, former army • barracks and now the site of refugee camps between Vienna and the frontier. Camps there were the first symbol of "freedom” for most of the 11,000 refugees either in the United States or en route. Fate of Others* Involved But even more than the fate of the refugees from the Hungarian* tragedy was involved in the visit of Nixon as President Eisenhower’s personal representative. All escapees from Communist oppres--sion during the past 10 years were likely to be affected. The immediate drama of Hungary has brought into vivid relief the plight of refugees in Austria and Germany. But the Nixon visit may call attention to the scores of other displaced persons camps in Europe whose plight has gone largely unnoticed. About 144,285 Hungarians fled into Austria during the eight weeks of the Hungarian rebellion, and about half of them are still in refugee camps. But even before then 132,000 refugees reached Austrial. Most of them were absorbed, but 10,000 are still in camps. Os these 8.000 are waiting to go to America.
