Spartans Beat Petroleum By 57-51 Score The Pleasant Mills Spartans staged a third quarter scoring spree to defeat the Petroleum Panthers 57 to 51 at Petroleum Tuesday night ' The Adams county quintet, the only one in action Tuesday night, started out slowly and trailed their opponents during the entire first ! half. The Panthers were on top 16 to 14 at the end of the first period and 28 to 24 at the main ! intermission. In the third quarter, the Spar- i tans began to conneat and pour- i ed 20 points through the hoops ] while they limited their opponents to 9. The Panthers fought hard on i the heels of their guests during the final period but were unable to overcome the deficit. ’ Meyers of the Spartans led the scoring with 20 points. Harshman was high for Petroleum with 14 to his credit. The Spartans next contest will be on their home floor Friday when they clash iwith the Decatur Catholic Commodores. Decatur Net League * Results Are Listed Linn Grove whipped Schannons, 75-34, and Pleasant Mills defeated Meyer's Gulf, 63-53, in Decatur independent basketball league games Tuesday night at the Lincoln school gym. Linn Grove led at all periods, I, 31-15, and 59-19 in the opener. M. Myers led the winners with 25 points, and J. Meyers topped Schannons with 20. In the nightcap, pleasant Mills was in front all -the way, 19-6, 3821, and 48-30. Bleke and Jerry Price each tallied 14 points for Pleasant Mills, and Bultemeier led Meyer’s Gulf with 16.
