They were expected to approve a proposal by the minor leagues to force major league teams to cut their rosters to 28 players by the opening day of the season, thus establishing the minor league lineups a month earlier than usual. They also were expected to accept a suggestion by the minor leagues that the annual major league meetings in the future be held in alternate years in a minor league city. One Trade Made Only one trade resulted Monday from dozens of conversations by the major league clubs during the ‘only day in which the two big leagues held separate business meetings. Hie Chicago Cubs and St. Louis Cardinals exchanged 10 players in an “even” deal under which left hander Jackie Collum and right hander Tom Poholsky replace left hander Jim Davis and right hander Sam Jones on the Cubs roster. In addition, catcher Nobie Landrith and infielder - Outfielder Eddie Miksis shift to the Cardinals in return for catcher Ray Katt. The Ctibs also obtained Willie Lammers, a shortstop - second baseman, • for the Los Angeles farm club, and AAA players to be selected before March 1. Rule Changes Made Both leagues made rules changes in their meetings. The American League voted to authorize a three game playoff, in case of a pennant tie, instead of the current one-game regulation. The league, however, got no chance to vote after a long discussion of inter-1 ea gu e games, to count in the standings, during the summer when sponsor Hank Greenberg of Cleveland withdrew his proposal. The National League changed its rules to provide that in the future all suspended, postponed or tie games be played in the city in which originally scheduled. They also voted that the second game of Sunday doubleheaders can be started under lights after 6 p.m. local time, if permitted by law. Chicago Cubs Buy Catcher From Yanks CHICAGO ‘(UP) — Cubs added a second catcher in less than 24 hours to their roster today, buying Charlie Silvera from the New York Yankees for cash and two minor league players to be delivered later. Silvera, 32, was waived out of the American League in order for the deal to go through. He had been with the Yankees for eight years, and has a lifetime major league batting average of .291. But in 1956, he appeared in only seveii games and hit .222 in nine times at bat. Sauer Resigns As The Citadel Coach CHARLESTON,, S. C. (UP) — John E. Sauer, hired as head football coach and athletic director at The Citadel to build the Bulldogs into a Southern Conference power, has resigned effective Dec. 31, “for personal reasons.” Sauer requested and received a release from a five-year contract he signed in 1955* which still had three more years to run. Citadel President Gen. Mark W. Clark accepted trfc resignation “with regret” Monday and told Sauer he was “making a mistake.” Trade to a Good Town — Decatui
