GECODE CLUB MEMBERS HAVE CHRISTMAS DINNER Both the first and second shift members of the GeCode club held their annual ChristrßSs dinners Wednesday at the Legion home. The dinners were served by the American Legion auxiliary. For the day shift dinner, the dining tables were decorated with candles, poinsettias, Christmas bells, and individual gifts from the club. Entertainment was provided by a girls’ quartet from Pleasant Mills, consisting of the Misses Mary Myers, Betty Myers, Wanda Luginbill,- and Marilyn Seipel, who were accompanied by Carolyn Luginbill. The decorations were given as door prizes, after Santa Claus arrived to distribute the gifts for the exchange. , Bunco was played by the members of the second shift, and a gift exchange was also held. Velma McDonald was chairman for the day shift, and her committee consisted’ of Ella Scherry, dochairman, "and Lucile Foor, Mina Stevens, Genevieve • Owens, June Hunter, Joan Hasis, and Esther Strickler. Chairmen for the night shift were Glennis Barkley and Betty Smith. CHRISTMAS FAMILY PARTY HELD BY BETHANY CLASS The Kum-Join-Us class of the Bethany E.U.B. church met Tuesday evening for their annual family Christmas party. The entertaining rooms and dining rooms were. attractively decorated in keeping with the holiday season. The Rev. B. G. Thomas gave the invocation, followed by the serving of dinner to 71 guests. A short program followed the dinner. Stanley Alger rendered a trumpet solo, and was accompanied by Sharon Sheets. Gayle Custer read the Christmas story, “The Cobbler and His Guest,” after which an accordion solo was played by Janet Habegger. A duet, ‘‘Star of the East,” was sung by Janet Miller and Julia Ellsworth. They were actompanied by Elinor Miller. At the close of the program, devotions were given by Dr. Ray Stingely. Merritt Alger, instructor of the class, was a gift by members of the <GEs. During the business meeting, which was conducted by the president, LaDoyt Miller, several reports were given, and election of officers was held. Mrs. Winston Rawley was elected president of the group, and Everett Hutker was elected vicepresident. Mrs. Wendell Seaman is the new secretary and treasurer, and her assistant is Mrs. Carl Noll. A gift exchange was conducted during the social hour which followed. Hosts and hostesses for the affair were Mr. and Mrs. Clem Snell, Mr. and Mrs. Francis Ellsworth, and Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Habegger. LADIES AID MEETS FOR DAY OF QUILTING The Union Chapel Ladies Aid met recently for a day of fellowship and quilting. There were 15 members four visitors and two children present. The meeting was opened by group singing, followed by roll call and payment of dues. During the business session it was announced that the next meeting would be December 20. Church family night will be next Wednesday evening with a carry-in meal served at 6. The Christmas program, planned by the Mesdames Earl Chase, Don Smith and
Viola Scheiderer, included the singing of carols, the scripture lesson from Luke 2:1-20, read by Mrs. Ammi Miller, and prayer by Mrs. C. O. Brown. Mrs. Don Smith gave a reading, followed by a duet by Mrs. Ralph Rice and Mrs. Earl Chase. A read- . ing was than given by Mrs. Rolt land Gilliom and closing prayer . by Mrs. Ammi Miller. The Psi lota Xi sorority will ’ meet next Tuesday evening at 8 ; o’clock at the Youth and Community center. • Mrs. Henry Heimann will be hostess for the annual Christmas party of the Profit and Pleasure . home demonstration club, whicl) will meet at her home Tuesday evening at 6:30 o’clock. The St. Catherine study club will meet with Mrs. Daniels Tuesday evening at 8 o’clock. There will be a $1 gift exchange. Mrs. Frank Singleton will be hostess to the Mt. Pleasant W.S.C.- , S. Thursday, starting with a pot luck dinner at 11 a.m. Members i are requested to bring a covered dish, their own table service and a 50-cent gift. Members of the Monmouth P. T. A- have issued a reminder to residents of this area, of their county auction which will be held Jn the Monmouth high school gymnasium, Monday evening, starting at 7 o’clock. The Order of Eastern Star will have a stated meeting and Christmas party at the Masonic home, Thursday evening at 7:30 o’clock Each member .is asked to bring a 50-cent gift for the exchange. Mrs. Sherman Kunkel will be hostess to the Christmas party of the Root township home demonstration club, Tuesday morning at 10 o’clock. Poultry Management School Wednesday A poultry management school will be held in the Co-op administrative building at Monroe, at 1 p.m., Wednesday, states Forest J. Tucker, Coop county manager. All poultry minded men and women are welcome, according to Tucker. Robert Phillips, Co-op state fieldman for the poultry department, will discuss the latest research work on-poultry breeding; explaining how research workers are finding the poultry strains that have long, high rate of laying ability, good feed conversion, and good livability. Mark Mansfield, Co-op state fieldman on feeds, will lead the discussion on starting baby chicks, growing and developing the pullet flock, and managing the . layers. Door prizes will given out during the poultry school.
One Man fined On Intoxication Charge Fred Hirschy, 50, of Monroe, was fined $5 and costs in city court this morning on a charge of public intoxication after being held overnight in the Adams county jail. He was arrested Thursday night by city police on 13th street. Terry D. Bittner, 17, of Decatur route two, was arrested for speeding on North Second street Thursday night. He is scheduled to appear in justice of the peace court Saturday.
