Miss Thatcher is a graduate of Rqckford high school and'is employed at the Lincoln Life Insurance Company in Fort Wayne. Her fiance is a graduate of Adams Central high school and is an employe of the General Electric company in Decatur. No date has been set for the wedding,.

j Mr. and Mrs. Newell Wright, of Fort Wayne, are the parents of twins born Tuesday morning at the ‘.Lutheran hospital in Fort Wayne. The baby girl weighed five pounds, nine and a half Ounces, and the twin boy weighed six pounds one and a half ounces. The Wrights are former residents of Decatur. At the Adams county memorial hospital: Walter and Kathaleen Heiman Baker of 1204 Master Drive, are the parents of a nine pound, seven ounce son, born Tuesday at 1:22 p.m. A son was born yesterday afternoon at 1:08 o’clock to Roy and Betty Sautter Friedley of 1127 Nuttman avenue. Historians believe America’s first pigs were landed by Hernando DeSoto at Gasparilia Island near Tampa, Fla. on May 25. 1539. There were 13 sows and two boars.

BEVERLY SPIEGEL ELECTED COMMANDER OF AUXILIARY Beverly Speigel was elected commander of the D.A.V. Junior auxiliary which met at the post home Monday evening. Other officers elected at the meeting were Dianna August, senior vice commander: Nancy Burger. junior vice commai&er; Nancy Hitchocpck, chaplain; Dianna Spiegel, treasurer, and Marlene Stucky, adjustant. Games were played and Christmas carols were sung, after which refreshments were served by Catherine and Deborah Eyanson. The next meeting will be held January 7. < ' < ■ Sirs, lloyd ahr is OSTESS TO CIRCLE Circle 2 of the Methodist W.S.C.S. met recently at the home of Mrs. Lloyd Ahr. Fourteen mem : bers, two guests and one child were present for the meeting. Mrs. R. D. Meyers gave the devotions, using the 14th chapter of Matthew. The lesson, entitled “A Thanksgiving Album,” was presented by Mrs. Harold Gay. After the business meeting, refreshments were served by Mrs. Ahr. and Mrs. Walter Lister. FIRST ANNUAL BANQUET HELD BY CHI RHO CLASS The first annual banquet of the Zion Evangelical and Reformed Chi Rho Sunday school class was held Sunday evening at the Youth and Community center. After the dinner, election of new officers for the coming year was held. They are as follows: president, Robert Kershner; vicepresident, Roger Borne; secretary, Mrs. Lawrence Arnold; and treasurer, Mrs. Richard Gehrig. The, class presented the Rev. William Feller, pastor of the church, a , check for SIOO which will be used in the building fund. This is an annual project of the class. A gift exchange was held, after which numerous games and contests were enjoyed. Outgoing officers of the organization are president, Richard Kershner, vice-president, James Tumbleson, and secretary and treasurer, Mrs. Richard Linn. TRI KAPPA SORORITY HAS ANNUAL CHRISTMAS PARTY Forty-three members of the local Tri Kappa sorority attended a turkey dinner at the Legion home Tuesday evening. In keep- , ing .Christmas seasgru. the tables wete attractively decorated with cornucopia baskets, overflowing with brightly colored Christmas tree ornaments, which were later distributed to members. Hand decorated napkins ware used, and lighted candles were placed along the center of the U-shaped dining table. After the dinner, Mrs. Harold August introduced Mrs Paul Hancher and a 35-voice children’s . choir, composed of first and second graders at the Lutheran grade school. of Christmas carols, which was concluded by a duet, “Silent Night,” sung by little Donna Reidenbach and Tonna Bultemeier. Mrs. Jamqs Kocher, Jr., president of the sorority, presented two sorority patronages to the group. These guests were Mrs. C. E. Bell and Mrs. John Tyndall. A short business session was then conducted, and the group was reminded of the next business meeting which will be held at the Youth Center December 18. The Tri Kappa doll will be awarded at this meeting, and members are urged to complete sales by that time. Mrs. Reid B, Erekson delighted the group with her reading of the Christmas love story, “What Miracles are Made of." Miss Helen Haubold was accompanied by Mrs Kocher at the piano, as she led the group in the singing of Christmas carols. Mrs. Harold August and Mrs. Paul Hammond were co-chairmen of the dinner. Assisting them were the Mesdames Calvin Burnett, Lowell Harper, Fred Kunkel, David Langston, William Schnepf, and Robert Aeschliman, and Miss Barbara Cole, Miss Joan Johnson, and Miss Carol Seitz. NOBLE GRAND OFFICE GOES TO MRS. ANNA Mrs. Anna Rancher was elected noble grand of Olive Rebekah lodge 86 at'the last meeting of that group, which was held recently in the Odd Fellows hall. Mrs. Hancher will succeed Mrs. Nancy Lengerich. Vice grand elected at the meeting was Mrs. Helen Liechty, and recording secretary is Mrs. Mildred Keller. Mrs. Clara Myers was elected financial secretary, Mrs. Vera Gause, treasurer, and Miss Laura Stanley will be the trustee for the coming year. The remaining will be appointed, and installation will take place January 8. Mrs. Enola Jones of Poneto, deputy president of district 31, and her installing staff will be present for this event. The Three Link club met after the lodge meeting. Mrs. Maggie Haley was elected president to succeed Mrs. Anna Hancher. Mrs. Rufina Roth was elected vicepresident and Mrs. Opal Myers was elected to serve as secretary and treasurer. Plans were completed for the annual turkey dinner and Christfas party, to be held Tuesday evening at 6 o’clock. Each person attending is asked to. bring her owj) table service and a 50 dfehts gift for the exchange. ° The committee in charge of arrangement for this dinner includes Mrs. Nancy Lengerich, Mrs. Mary Shierling, Mrs. Georgia Kreigh, Mrs. Opal Myers, Mrs. Clara Drum and Mrs. Helen Lister. TRAINING SCHOOL FOR OFFICERS HERE FRIDAY Final plans for the annual training schobl for the new officers of the Adams county home demonstration club have been announced by Mrs. R. C. Hersh, county home demonstration president. The training school will be held Friday at the Youth and Community Center in Decatur, beginning at 10 a.m. Registration will be in charge of Mrs. Bert Haley and Mrs. Noah Habegger. Mrs. Dan Striker, county first vice president, will have charge of the opening program. Special classes will be conducted for the various offices. Instructors will be Mrs. Albert Beineke, presidents and vice presidents: Gloria Koeneman, secretaries and treasurers; Marlene Laurent of the Decatur Daily Democrat, news reporters; Mrs. Martin Neuenschwander, county chorus director, song leaders; Dick Willsey and George Nuffer, Purdue health specialists, health and safety leaders; citizenship chairman, Mrs. R. C. Hersh. A carry-in luncheon at noon will be in charge of Mrs. of Mrs. Kenneth Runyon and Mrs. Grovei - Levy. Mrs. vAlbert Beineke, former home demonstration president of Adams county, will install the newly elected officers of the county home demonstration association in the afternoon program. EAGLES AUXILIARY ATTENDS RECENT DISTRICT MEETING The Eagles auxiliary attended the’ district meeting at Huntington .Saturday and brought back the Coveted traveling trophy. — Many of those attending received beautiful gifts and Bertha Kramer received the most prized gift. Everyone renwed aquaintances with members from many different towns and cities throughout Indiana. Those attending from the local lodge were Edna Morris, Vangie Witham, Bertha Kramer, Lucille Bodie, Ora Lou Beavo, Ethel Teepie, Bessie Pomerinke, Evelyn Spangler, Anna Meyers and Mary Witacre. Also receiving a beautiful gift and filling a chair of honor at this meeting was a local past madam president, Ora Lou Beavo. ADAMS COUNTY CHORUS HAS CHRISTMAS PARTY The Adams county chorus held their Christmas party Monday evening at the Farm Bureau building in Monroe, with a carryin supper and gift exchange. ——

The Dorcas class of the Bethany Evangelical United Brethren church will have a pot luck supper next Tuesday'evening at 6:30 o’clock at the home of Mrs. John Spahr. 107 South Seventh street. Members are asked to bring a covered dish and their own table service. The meat and rolls will be provided by the committee in charge.
