Rokossovsky Back At Russian Post Ex-Polish Defense Minister To Russia MOSCOW (UP)— Marshal Keth stantin K. Rokossovsky, who resigned as Polish minister of defense in a shakeup of the Polish government last week, has returned to Russia as deputy minister of defense, it was announced today. The Communist Party newspaper Pravda said the Polish-born Rokossovsky will serve as deputy to Marshal Georgi K. Zhukov, his former commander during World War 11. Rokossovsky was twice a Soviet Hero during the war, successfully defending Moscow and Stalingrad against the Nazi invaders. Pravda said in 1949 Polish President Boleslaw Beirut "asked the Soviet government to place Marshal Rokossovsky at the disposal of the Polish government for service with the Polish army, taking into consideration his Polish nationality." Rokossovsky was ousted from the Politburo of the Polish Corn-/ munist Party in October and resigned as minister of defence last Wednesday at a time when many Polish leaders of the old Stalinist regime were losing their jobs in the new “Titoite” Warsaw government.
