VOGLEWEDE & ANDERSON, Lawyers for Plaintiffs Nov. S, IS, 20 6 ■ 1 0 County Agent's Column. o — Rodent Control Farmers should not overlook rodent control as one of the chores involved in corn storage, says G. C. Oderkirk, Purdue University rodent control specialist. Aware of cold, wintry days ahead, the rats and mice have started moving y-fpom their summer homes in 'fields and along fence rows ifrto the security of farm buildings. > With the corn crop in the crib, the rodents need only to dig in and make their homes close to their food supply. Poisoned baits should be set out now to welcome the migrating rodents. A continuous supply of fresh bait needs to be exposed at 12 to 20 places around the average farmstead. Anitcoagulant poisons such as warfarin, pival, or fumarin are recommended as they are the least likely to cause injury to animals other than rats. Homemixed baits are very well accepted by fats and mice and can be made by mixing 85 percent cracked corn, five percent salad oil, five percent sugar, and five percent of the anticoagulant poison. Rat and mouse harbor removal should go hand-in-hand with a poisoned bait treatment. By cleaning out or removing places where rats and mice stay, a farmer can do much to discourage rodents from staying on his farm. Commercial Feed Ever wondered if you’re getting your money’s worth when you buy a commercial feed? Thanks to inspections and tests by Purdue University's agricultural experiment station, a farmer can be assured that the commercial feed he buys contains the amounts and kinds of ingredients guaranteed by the manufacturer on the label. Authority to inspect and test all brands of commercial feeds sold or distributed in Indiana is granted to the state chemist, F. W. Quackenbush, by the Indiana commercial law, which became effective July 1, 1955. The law states that the feed must be labeled, listing the following guarantees: minimum per-
