Decatur Woman’s Club Departments Hold November Meetings Monday Night The November meetings of the departments of the Decatur Woman’s club were held Monday evening, with the exception of the Dramatic department, which will attend the presentation of the “Seven Year Itch” at the Palace theater in Fort Wayne Friday evening. Mrs. Glenn Hill entertained the members of the Music department, and the Literature department met at the home of Mrs. Hugh Andrews. Mrs. Ivan Stucky was hostess to the meeting of the Civic department, and the Junior Women’s department met with Mts. Dean Klossner.
The Junior Arts department of Woman's club will have their next meeting Monday evening at the Decatur Youth and Community Center. The program for this meeting will be presented by the Musses Ellen Welch, Elizabeth Miller, Kathleen Kohne, Kathleen Baker and Barbara Brunnegraff. Dr. Milton Bruce Byrd of Indiana University will be the guest speaker at the general meeting of Woman’s, club, to be held November 19. In charge of this meeting is the literature department, with Mrs. W. L. Harper as chairman. The assisting committee includes Mrs. Edward Cook and Mrs. B. G. Thomas. The run-down of last night’s meetings follows: Music Department Twenty-three members attended Monday evening’s meeting of the Music department, held at the home of Mrs. Glenn Hill. Mrs. Dan H. Tyndall was program leader, and read a very interesting paper eptitled, "Toscanini, An Intimate Portrait," by Samuel Chotzinoff.

During the business session, names were drawn for the annual Christmas exchange to be held at the December meeting of the department. Mrs. C. E. Bell will be hostess for this Christmas meeting, with the program to center around current events. The Decatur ministerial association has again extended an invitation to this department to sing at the annual Good Friday services. ' At the close of the meeting, refreshments were served by the hostess, who was assisted by Mrs. Ed D. Engeler, Mrs. Clyde Butler, and Mrs. Clint Reed. Art Department The Art Department met Monday. evening at the home of Mrs. A. R. Ashbaucher, 626 North Third street. The subject for the evening was "Art in Our Town.” Miss Glennys Roop, •program chairman, showed pictures of places of interest in Decatur to form a clever contest. Mrs, Lois Black and Miss Eleanor Pumphrey won the prizes by guessing the most locations which were pictured. The hostess, assisted by Mrs. Clyde Harris and Mrs. Homer D. Lower, served refreshments during the social period which followed the meeting. Literature •Department Mrs. Hugh Andrews was hostess to the Literature denartment of the Woman's club, with 16 members in attendance. The meeting
was opened with the group repeating the club collect. Mrs. John Tyndall and Miss Frances Dugan gave d very interesting program concerning the life of Henrick Ibsen, who lived from 1828-1906. Mrs. Tyndall gave the biography of Ibs'en, a Norwegian dramatist, and Miss Dugan reviewed one ol Ibsen’s plays, entitled “Doll’s House.” The chairman, Mrs. Maty ’jane Saylors, conducted the business session, after which refreshments were served by Mrs. Andrews and her committee, which consisted of Mrs. C. A. Dugan, Miss Frances Dugan, and Mrs. John Tyndall. Civic Department \ “Know Your America” was the theme of the Civic department’? Monday„ evening meeting. Mrs. Ivan Stucky was hostess to the department. Her son, Marvin, gave a very interesting talk on various countries of America that he had visited. Mrs. Louella Ellsworth was welcomed back into the club as an active member, and Mrs. Glen Custard .was welcomed as a new member, after which refreshments were served by the hostess, who was assisted. bysMrs. H. The meeting >vas opened in regular form with the group repeating the club collect, followed by the order of business. During the business session, a committee was appointed to select a program for the January general meeting of the Woman’s club. Mrs. Robert Babcock wag appointed as the Girl Scout representative for this department,. Mrs. Henry Houk was a guest at the meeting, and showed some beautiful and very interesting slides she had taken while traveling through Europe. j A deliciodl luncheon was served to the 20 members present, by the hostess and the co-hosteses, Mrs. David Embler, Jr., Mrs. William Howell, and Mrs. Eugene Chronister. Mrs. Floyd Reed will be hostess to the December meeting of this group. I AMERICAN LEGION JUNIORS MEET RECENTLY AT LEGION The Juniors of the American Legion auxiliary unit 43 met at the Legion home Monday evening. Miss Cheryl Ashbaucher, junior chairman, had charge of the meeting. It was reported that Halloween favors had been sent to the Knightstown children’s home, and to the Adams county home. Plans Were ejflMMtew/or the Christmas party to be held December 3. Readings were given by Janet and Judy Brown. Games were played and prizes were awarded to the winners. A delicious dinner was served by Mrs. Wayne Frauhiger, Mrs. Tone Kitson, and Mrs. Alma Goelz, who were assisted by their daughters.

MRS. LOWELL HARPER PRESIDES OVER MEETING The Girl Scout leaders met recently at the Youth and Community Center with sixteen members present. Mrs. Lowell Harper, president, presided over the business meeting, and Mrs. Robert Holhouse, board chairman for community service, led an interesting discussion on the different fields in which Girl Scouts can be service to the community. - The Girl Scouts will take orders for the peanut sale from November 12 through November 17. Mrs. Brandyberry will deliver the material to all Girl Scout leaders and she the orders on November 26 to 28. Mrs. Ben Eichenauer and Mrs. William Brown demonstrated the achievement of badges for Girl, Scouts and Mrs. John Koors and Mrs. Ellis Shaw displayed crafts an taught a few games that Brownies will enjoy. The December leaders meeting will combine with the board association council to be held at 1:15 p.m. Thursday, December 6. Chairman from the leaders club will be Mrs. Wilbur Reynolds, assisted by Mrs. Byron Smith, Mrs. Dora Beery, Mrs. Richard Mansfield Jr., and Mrs. Dave Heller. EVERREADY CLASS MEETS IN CHURCH LOUNGE The Everready class of the Methodist church met recently in the church lounge. The meeting was opened with Mrs. Dovie Bedwell leading in prayer. Devotions were given by Mrs. Gail Baughman, who used as her theme, “The Month of November.” Miss Sara Jane Frank entertained with accordion and piano music. Readings were given by Mrs. L. J. Monahew of Keystone. The Misses Becky Mattox and Linda Sexton gave interesting reports on the meeting they had attended for young people at Lake Webster during the past summer. Mrs. Frank Crist, chairman of the social hour, conducted a contest on “well-known sayings.” Prizes were awarded to Mrs. Henry Heller and Mrs. Homer Lower. Guests at the meeting were Mrs. Lucille Fruchte, Mrs. Virgil Sexton, and her daughter Judy. At the close of the meeting, refreshments were served by the hostess, who was assisted by Mrs. Forest Elzey, Mrs. O. L. Vance, and Mrs. Jesse Niblick. ADAMS COUNTY CHORUS HAS REHEARSAL AT MONROE The Adams county demonstration chorus met Monday evening for the regular rehearsal at Monroe, with Mrs. Martin Neuenschwander directing. A Christmas I party will be held December 3 at the Farm* Bureau building in Monroe, at 6:30 p. m. This will be a pot luak -eliHnetr and -M.OU gift exchange. FORT WAYNE STATE SCHOOL ASSOCIATION TO MEET There will be a meeting of the Parents and . Friends association of the Fort Wayne State School, Inc., Sunday at 3 p.m., in the girls gymnasium at the school. The newly elected officers will preside at this meeting. They are, president, Mrs. Lawrence Emmons, Michigan City; , first vicepresident, Mel Blaising, Fort Wayne; second vice - president, Rev. Christian Kocher, Fort Wayne; treasurer, Mrs. Herman Muessing, Fort Wayne; corresponding secretary, Yale Ehret. Elkhart; and recording secretary, Mrs. Harold Shetterly, Mishawaka. Important matters concerning the school will be discussed at this meeting, and interested persons are invited to attend. The Past Presidents Parley will meet at the Preble Restaurant Monday evening at 8 o’clock, for a regular meeting. Mrs. Bernice Adams will be hostess to the Queen of the Rosary study club, Thursday evening at 8 o'clock. The Town and Country home demonstration club will meet Thursday afternoon at 1:30 o’clock, at the home of Mrs. Henry Braun, 322 Stratton Way. Installation of officers will be the featured event of this meeting. The Bible study class of the First Presbyterian church will meet Wednesday morning from 9 to 11 o'clock. and Wednesday evening from 8 until 10 o’clock., ' f ' ' The afternoon circles 'of the Women’s association of the First Presbyterian church will meet Thursday afternoon at 2:30 o’clock. The Mary circle will meet with Mrs. John DeVoss and the Martha circle will meet with Mrs. Fred Smith. Mrs. Lowell Harper will present slides of the Cook Christian training school for Indians, at Phoenix, Ariz. Members are asked to bring articles of interest pertaining to the year’s study on Indians. > The Emblem club wil hold its regular meeting Thursday evening at the Elks home. Informal initiation will be held at this time. The committee will serve a spaghetti supper at 6:30 o’clock. The Pleasant Grove Harvesters band will meet at the church, Saturday afternoon at 2 o'clock. The Roadside council will meet with Mrs. John Floyd, Friday evening at 6 o'clock, with a potluck supper. Members are asked to i bring a covered dish and their own
table service. The Zion Lutheran church at Friedheim js sponsoring a chicken and ham supper at -the church. Sunday afternoon, starting at 4 o’clock. Jhe Baptist Missionary society wffl meet Thursday evening at the church, at 7:30 o’clock. Hostesses will be Mrs. Hugh Moyer, Mrs. William Eichhorn, ana Mrs. Lase Grimm. I Power Contract To Be Opened Tonight Decatur’s electrical supply problem is taking a back seat to election news but a major step toward solving the critical power situation will be taken by city council tonight. Bids on the contract for providing purchased power to the city of Decatur will be opened by the council at the regular meeting at 8 p.m. in city hall. The specifications of the contract call for the supplying to the city of Decatur a bloc of power with a maximum demand ot i.oUO K.W. Thursday BLOOMINGTON, Ind. — Principals and guidance counselors from 165 Indiana high schools will attend the 11th annual high schooljunior division conference at Indiana University Thursday. Representing Adams county will be Loren S. Jones, Monmouth principal. A total of 264 representatives Will attend the one-day conference designed for mutual benefit to participating high schools and the University in planning a more effective transition between the high school and university levels. Aged Richmond Lady Is Fatally Burned RICHMOND, Ind. (UP) — Mrs. Minnie Reiser, 84, Richmond, was burned fatally in fire at her home ■ Monday. ! Mrs. Reiser died six hours after - the blaze burned out rooms. Authorities said the fire started ; when she lighted a coal stove with t a piece of paper. They believed i Mrs. Reiser’s dress caught fire and 1 she dropped the burning paper. . '
